Up date on Surplus Center Motor

T Blade

There is no indication of the value or rating of the resistor. From the Surplus Center description, it is not clear what the function is. It may be a brake resistor. It may also be for programming some other function in the controller. That particular arrangement, with the plug in pins, means that it was designed to go with a particular maufacturer/model of controller. If you have the same controller, it may be useful to you. I do agree with FLACOMAN that it looks way too small to act as a brake resistor and would burn up. Let us know what the staff at Surplus Center say, if you do call them.

The parts that NHAMILTO40 found at SurplusSales would be suitable. Resistors are pretty reliable (simple) devices and rarely fail so they should be OK even if they are used. The price is pretty good too. Check to see if they sell a bracket for mounting the resistor. The tubular types do not usually have mounting feet.

Be sure to use sufficiently large wire (at least 14 AWG) for connecting the resistors since the current would be in the order of 3-5 Amps. The temperature rating of the insulation on the wire will have to be relatively high, say over 110 degrees C, since the resistor end will be quite hot. Appliance wire (like for your toaster oven) would be good. The crimp lugs that you can get at auto supply stores or Home Depot may be useful, depending on what type of terminals the resistor has.
