Up or Down?

I'm in the final stages of building this 7 3/4 in bladed bowie. The mental image I have has a shaped/sculpted brass butt plate and a barrel nut on the end of the hidden tang. The plate has not yet been fully shaped with some "ovalizing" still to do.

Originally, I had the plate "up" with the thicker end on top, but now that the handle is shaped, I really don't know!

What say you........ Up or Down?

Well for what it's worth my opinion is that it looks better up. On the bottom picture with it down it interupts the flow of the handle. But won't that large piece of brass at the but end upset the balance in the hand? With only a 7 3/4 inch blade I would think that large of a pomel and a finial nut would make the knife feel handle heavy.

2nd looks much better to me, BTW, it seems very handsome knife there, anxiously waiting the finished pics...

Thanks for ther input.

Bill - With the brass butt plate and a standard nut on the end, the balance point is right at the guard. That may change a bit with a few extra grams when the brass finial nut is finished, but I'm happy with it weighted as is.

Thick side up, but just my opinion. Your finial nut will look more centered that way.

Looks good at this point. More pics when done?!?!
