Ferrous-- much to my wife's disappointment, he was only using his hand:) . I'm not sure how Bando deals with sparring--Duvon's comment could have related only to katas. I would assume that many of the techniques Duvon demonstrated could not be safely performed with a live blade regardless of one's skill level. I definitely would not have been comfortable with someone having a khukuri that close to my body.

Count me in for the Clinic.

I would have replied sooner, but I have been kind of out of it with the flu:barf:. I believe my wife called me Delirious:confused: :D

If I can make it, I will.
I have a bunch of weekends this summer already booked, but if it's a clear weekend...:D

After viewing the convention tape I can see this would be one not to miss!! Sorry I missed the convention. Gotta take some time off,

2 yes: Josh Feltman and Logan1
2 strongly interested: Aardvark and donutsrule.

I guess we are a few short so far:(

I may have a few friends that would be interested as well. I'll ask around.

People: If you are debating whether or not this is worth it, think about it. A weekend seminar for the price of a khukuri, well, not a blem, but you get the picture. Even if you are not interested in the martial aspects, it would probably be worth it just to learn how to use a khukuri safely. Much of Duvon's presentation centered around safe use of the khukuri-- making sure that your body isn't in the path of the blade, etc. Besides, if a group of us get together, it could be like a mini-convention. Everybody could bring collections for show and tell, etc.

Bill,

Live just a little too far away to attend - if only I lived one or two or three thousand miles closer. :(

However, if you video the workshop, I guarantee that I will buy a copy. I really enjoyed listening to Duvon on the HI conference video.:)

Look like it's not going to happen this year. Duvon wanted to get it done early on and we don't have enough. Maybe next year.

Uncle, are you going to make a vid of the khukuri Bando clinic? There may be much more people like me, who are interested but can not attend. You can price it, get enough pre-orders, and the clinic can be held with less attendants.

Maybe we could just up the price a little bit. 10 people at $150 equals $1500, so if only Logan and I go, we would have to pay, let's see, $750 each? :( That's not too bad. What do you say, Logan?;)

Hey, Uncle Bill-- maybe we could post a notice in one of the tactical forums here on Bladeforums and see if it generates some more interest.

Sounds like an idea:D, I'll run this by my wife tonight and see what she says:D :p

Bummer it can't happen this year, but maybe next year? I will definately make this if it can happen. I learned alot in just the 2 hours of his demonstration(and I got the convention video for more info retention). I think $150 is reasonable, it would be well worth it to be taught by Dr. Winborne. That is about what I have paid for martial arts clinics, and I have paid more for firearms clinics.

Duvon seemed disappointed but let's face it Bando is not a popular martial art. I think there are more Tai Kwan Do practioners in Reno than Bando practioners in the world.

is enuf to buy a year plus at any dojo I can think of.

I've noticed that Tai Kwan Do is the most commonly found school here as well. Too bad.

hello,

i'm in nyc and will not be able to make it. however, Dr. Winborne was the "dummy" for Dr. Gyi at a NYC seminar (not a khukri one, i missed that one as it was mother's day weekend :-( ) i was at. he also demo'd some of the moves. it is evident he is highly skilled and i'm sure he has much to offer knowing that he is one of Dr. Gyi's long-time students.

good luck with the seminar. i hope it works out for you.

Keith, Tae Kwon Do is the McDonalds of martial arts. You could go to practically any strange location, and if they had a McDonalds, Id betchya theyd have some guy teaching TKD. Somedays I think that if a Nuclear Holocaust ever did happen all that would be left would be cockroaches, a McDonalds, a Starbucks, and a TKD school.:D :p

can someone pay to fly me from Akron to Reno? My Kukuri started my knife collection and Ive always wanted to learn how to wield it with a bit more finesse than a hatchet.

This is a dead issue until next year so I'm going to close the thread and reopen if and when the time is right.
