Upcoming crkts

I like some CRKT designs, but the steels they use and the country of origin keeps me away from them. It's encouraging to see them use something like 154CM, it's no S90V or M390, but it's a step up from their usual stuff. I hope this is the first step in a trend towards better materials (at least on some models).

I've heard good things about their acuto. Heard it has similar edge retention to vg10.

The James William designed knives; Hisshou, Shinbu, and Sakimori are some expensive pieces with msrp's of $375, $350, and $300. I bought the Hisshou a few years back paying around $200. The moment I took it out of the box it comes in I could see and feel that it was a quality piece of cutlery. Had to sale it in 2012 to help pay hospital bills, but have it in the back of my mind to get another one, in fact I would love to get the whole set eventually.

I am looking forward to the Fossil, since it is sort of a larger version of the Sampa.

Crap steel, if CRK used the same steel his knives would cost about the same as CRKTs.

Bad, horrible steel that won't even hold 15 degrees per side for even light work, hard for me to even start thinking about the bad build quality.

I don't hate CRKT, I just think Kershaw, Cold Steel and Gerber all put out better products at competitive or better prices.

No offense but what specific task requires you to have 15 degree angle on your edge? 20 is more than enough for everyday tasks and will easily shave hair. Also CRKT build quality has been nothing short of spot on for me with the 5 folder I own. I've avoided their Chinese produced models. The FRN handled M16 models are a solid build and come with a lifetime warranty. Their AUS8 is easily on par with my Cold Steel knives. Seriously, give them a try...

Yea i love my m16 with zytel handles feels like a much more expensive knife.

I recently decided to pick up one of CRKT's nicer offerings, a Tighe Rod. List is $175, street price is about $100, but I got it on sale for $75. Beautiful f&f, solid feel, and the best flipper I've experienced on any knife. I love it. My experiences with their lower end offerings have been a mixed bag (though more good than bad).

I think they chose a very poor platform in which to use premium materials. But its smart for the guy pushing their budget knives.

"Hey Joe, look we have decided not to pursue premium materials anymore. We tried it in a double blade fantasy knife of absolutely no practical application and found it not to be successful."

"But john, dont you think we should try introducing those materials into a knife that lends itself to edc tasks and not mall warfare before we right it off"

"Joe, I didnt get this job and my private parking spot in which I park one of my 3 $60,000+ cars by doing things logically and practically. If you want to pinch pennies and suck the dollars out of the pockets of your customers and put them into your own you certainly dont give them what they want. I would much rather convince them that 8cr13mov is and acceptable steel in a $100 folder. Thats how you get the prom queen."

I mean does anyone else feel they kinda do things a bit backwards? I cant tell you how many times I have considered a CRKT based on features then passed based on materials. It seems like every design of theirs i like like the new Flavio Ikoma designed fossil they do it in cheap materials. Then when they do utilize passable steels and taiwan production they do it on a blah design. I really really want to like CRKT. But it just seems with every design they put out they manage to wiggle in a deal breaker into it.

15 degrees is what my m16-14t was ground at from the factory. The steel sucks.

I like CRKT. Most of the designs are really not for me but luckily they have lots of them. I especially like that new Eros, it' s very reminiscent of a Kershaw Leek. If only it had a less outlandish clip...

I must said I like the old, "tactical" crkt line much better then the new novelty line.
But it must be said that NO company offers so wide choice of makers and designs.
It is not a company for steel snobs, but they always have something new.

And Crawford/kasper and crawford/polkowski are THE BEST :D

I agree. I asked CRKT about the possibility of them producing a new line of Polkowski/Kasper model like the Bulldog, Pug, Scorpion and a reissue of the Companion. They said it wasn't something they would do. Too bad, I think they would sell really well!
