Hey Guys..

We have an upcoming Scout Friendship camp coming up next month..There will be scouts from all over the county as well as some scouts from the US...

One of the traditions of Friendship camps is to trade pins, patches and scouting stuffz...

So I was thinking,, what could we do as giveaways to fellow scouts...

Then it came to me,, the Gift of Fire!!

I've got a Ton of empty Skoal tins (plastic) that I've been saving for just something like this...

This is what I've came up with.. simple but effective,,and cheap to make...

I'm going to be making about 20 + of these little kits for the kids and my other leader to give away...

They will however have to provide their own ferro rods...

The Skoal tins are washed and stripped of their labels so to not promote Tobacco use...

So what do you think ???

Eric - great idea! I know that as a Scout, I would have loved to have had one of those as a gift.

might consider throwing in a BSA hotspark.

A great idea Normark! A small ferro rod would be a great recommendation for the Scouts to add as well.

I'm kicking myself. Our BN XO has been dipping like a madman this year in Iraq; he must've went through a couple dozen of those plastic cans...should have hit him up. Anyways, I emailed this link to my wife for my son's Scout leader to ponder. Regardless, I'm planning on putting a few together for my Son's troop (only about a dozen kids) for Christmas. Thanks for the idea Normak!

Hey Guys..

Yaa a Ferro Rod would be cool,, but then it would tap into our funds..If I could get ferro rods .50 cents I'd just pay for them myself..

As it stands now, the kits don't cost anything really as it's all stuff that I've got kicking around...

Rock....

Yaa they'd be a good little thing to make for them,,quick and dirty...Especially with the US Skoal containers as they are 2X as thick as the Canadian cans...

The cans do add up fast.. If you know someone who dips get them to save them for you...

If you wrap a couple of turns of electrical or duct tape around the seam, they stay pretty waterproof too.

I didn't notice it until you said it but our cans are a good bit bigger. I used to carry my flint and steel and tinder in one and a lens for starting fire in another when I was in Boy Scouts. Great idea. I came up to Canada on one of those Friendship camps and it was a lot of fun.

Hey Guys..

Messer...

Yaa your cans are twice the thickness of ours @ more than what they cost in the US...
Just another example of being ass raped over here... :(

Nice idea Eric. I'm sure many scouts will love having one. I know the scouts in my troop, including me, would find that really useful. Is that fatwood?
