I assume you completely tape up the pivot and detent area before the stone-wash treatment?

I actually dont cover the pivot or detent area when I stone wash. I used to, but after doing it both ways, i can tell NO difference. Also, I am using an industrial tumbler, so the blade isnt really in long enough to do much. I do however tape up the detent ball when I stone wash the lockside scale of a knife. I have fould that to be the most important part to maintain smoothness.
