Good morning everyone. My name is Brian and I've been bitten by the traditional bug and it feels just right. I've made a comment here and there and posted several pics in the "what traditional are you carrying today" thread. I figured it's time to introduce myself and express my passion for these knives. I'm still new and just learning so go easy. I have not carried a clipped knife with a thumb stud in over a month. I've been selling off a lot of my modern knives to purchase traditonals, mostly GEC offerings. It doesn't help that Bob Andrews displays at local gunshows. Seeing a couple hundred GEC's is a real treat and a heck of a temptation.

That brings me to my question. I resisted temptation at the last gunshow to wait for the new Pemberton pattern. After seeing the pics and comparison to the Peanut I'm certain I want one.
So how does the acrylic stand up to daily carry and use? It will live in my watch pocket and perform daily tasks like fruit duty and mail/ package opening.
I am trying to decide between tomato acrylic and ebony. I know all the great virtues of ebony wood. I like the look of the red acrylic and how it emphasizes the curves of the coke bottle pattern.

Since everyone likes pics here's my half whit in Bocote along with an older friend.

Thanks,

Brian,

I don't have experience with GEC's acrylic, but I just wanted to welcome a fellow Pittsburgher to the forum. :)

I have two acrylic knives that I use quite frequently, and they hold up very well. I don't usually carry my pocket knife in the same pocket with other coins or keys, etc., but they have been bumped and dropped a few times with no negative consequences. Tough stuff.

The acrylic holds up pretty well. It can get scratched a bit but that's about it. I typically carry this GEC #33 with tortoise shell acrylic and sometimes shares space with change in the same pocket.

Jeff that's good feedback, thanks. I do the same, nothing in the pocket with my knives that will cause damage. I am quite the klutz at times so being dropped is always a possibility. The half whit in the pics has already been dropped on concrete.

Djeetyet? Yinz guys wanna go dahntahn to Primanti's and watch the Pens 'nat? I just need to stop at Jan Diggle on the way for some jumbo and pop.

I have also had no problems with the acrylic, and I also carry it (or any knife) in a pocket by itself.
Welcome Mr. Badexample! :welcoming: Bad Example, that is what more that 1 teacher called me growing up!

Enjoy, Dave

PS You guys are scary, you have your own secret talk and everything! :D

Dave thanks for the acrylic feedback. So far no negatives reported and I'm leaning towards acrylic.
As for or secret dialect. If we had a reality show some of us would need subtitles like on Swamp People and Moonshiners. :o

I carry their acrylic from time to time. It holds up fine and looks great. That being said, My ebony boy's knife had pushed everything else out of my pocket. Ebony is fantastic. Either way you can't go wrong.

First off thanks to everyone for the welcome and feedback. So last night me and a buddy went to the sportsmans show for something to do. After agreeing the cage for the Bengal tiger was seriously inadequate we continued down the isles and to my suprise we saw these guys.

After gushing like a teeny bopper at a Bieber concert I settled down and bought this one.

I was already thinking acrylic and after seeing it in person I was sold. Bill and his son couldn't have been nicer. I even told them about this thread and all of the positive feedback. I had my choice of several and no shipping or waiting. So this morning I'm one happy camper. I will be visiting their shop sometime in the next few months to check out the operation and of course buy more!

Great score!

Just so you know, GEC has an open house with special stuff every summer, usually in July. Queen is also up that way. Maybe we should get a Pgh group together to go.

That tomato acrylic looks great!!! Nice looking knife with good proportions.
