Update! A short intro and a question.

Welcome, Brian!

As I commented the first time I saw this picture, I love the size, form, and blade/tool choice of the little number on the left:

The knife on the right ain't no slouch, either! ;)

(One of my worst instance of dropsies was when I was taking a number of knives outside to photograph, and a few of them slid off the clipboard I was carrying them on. Plink, clunk, cracky noise [but fortunately, no actual cracking.] Um, oops. I also managed to drop my White Owl headfirst onto asphalt a few days after receiving it, leaving a gouge in one of the bolsters. Not a good feeling! But, I think this means at least one of us is in good company.)

Congratulations on finding GEC, up close and personal. What a great time! :)

First off thanks to everyone for the welcome and feedback. So last night me and a buddy went to the sportsmans show for something to do. After agreeing the cage for the Bengal tiger was seriously inadequate we continued down the isles and to my suprise we saw these guys.

After gushing like a teeny bopper at a Bieber concert I settled down and bought this one.

I was already thinking acrylic and after seeing it in person I was sold. Bill and his son couldn't have been nicer. I even told them about this thread and all of the positive feedback. I had my choice of several and no shipping or waiting. So this morning I'm one happy camper. I will be visiting their shop sometime in the next few months to check out the operation and of course buy more!

I was surprised I didn't see you there Thursday or Friday Brian!

Unfortunately I had no idea you or the GEC folks were going to be there. I had the half whit I bought from you in my pocket. They said I missed you there earlier in the day. I will have to do my homework next time!

Good morning everyone. My name is Brian and I've been bitten by the traditional bug and it feels just right. I've made a comment here and there and posted several pics in the "what traditional are you carrying today" thread. I figured it's time to introduce myself and express my passion for these knives. I'm still new and just learning so go easy. I have not carried a clipped knife with a thumb stud in over a month. I've been selling off a lot of my modern knives to purchase traditonals, mostly GEC offerings. It doesn't help that Bob Andrews displays at local gunshows. Seeing a couple hundred GEC's is a real treat and a heck of a temptation.

That brings me to my question. I resisted temptation at the last gunshow to wait for the new Pemberton pattern. After seeing the pics and comparison to the Peanut I'm certain I want one.
So how does the acrylic stand up to daily carry and use? It will live in my watch pocket and perform daily tasks like fruit duty and mail/ package opening.
I am trying to decide between tomato acrylic and ebony. I know all the great virtues of ebony wood. I like the look of the red acrylic and how it emphasizes the curves of the coke bottle pattern.

Since everyone likes pics here's my half whit in Bocote along with an older friend.

What is the knife on the left?

Thanks again Pertinux. I really like that little Imperial too. It somewhat satisfies my wanting one of the 2011 traditional forum knives. Hopefully one will pop up!

The dropsies are one of my worst traits. I dropped a brand new loaded pistol once. Thankfully it was on safe and suffered only minor cosmetic damage. The marks on the half whit just add character. Yeah I can say that now cause I did all the swearing when I dropped it!

It an old Imperial I found on the bay. I'm not too versed in any of this stuff so maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. I can take more pics (tang stamp, etc) and start a separate post if there's interest.

I've just been itching to find a traditional with a caplifter. I wasn't here for the 2011 Forum Knife "Bullet End Jack with cap lifter"

Yes me too. As I stated above it somewhat satisfies my wanting of the 2011 forum knife.
There were a few more like it listed. This one had a fair buy it now price so I bit.
The cap lifter is a nail breaker but it works great once open.
