(UPDATE) BK12!!+Spine fix,patina&jimp Pic heavy!

But dude, seriously, that looks unreal! Awesome work bud. Yours also looks machined now. Fantastic! You guys rock!

In BeeKayNutCase's defense....it was pretty, uh....eye attracting. I know you didn't have a choice NC as that's the way it came....so congrats on the new steel and the nice job cleaning up the de-ramping. Makes me realize how much I LOVE the thumb ramp on mine. I've done enough of that shtuff on other projects. BTW, I lurve my 12. It always gets left out of family pics 'cause its always attached to a pack of some sort.

That knife looks really good, nice job.

I like it better than the standard bk12, which looked too much like a spear point to me, yours gives it more of a bk2 look. I would love a 6"+ blade on a bk2 and that knife comes close. That's a keeper for sure!

Thanks everybody! I appreciate the compliments, it's very encouraging. I wasn't calling anyone out! I like the fact that it became a subject of conversation, that keeps these boards lively. That and the fact that everyone gets involved. Love it. In fact, I want to thank everyone because it WAS, uh.. Eye catching lol. Now it's waaaay cooler and I have y'all to thank for putting a fire under my butt. I love it even more now that it has my sweat and tears in it. And for a change, no blood! I'm sure y'all know by now I like to mod my stuff so now it's different my way, and improved. I've only had it since Wednesday and its already a whole different animal.

Started with white vinegar then two sets of brown mustard dabbed with paper towel. Turned out great!

Getting a razor sharp edge took no time and got it on first go. I am loving this blade! Took it to a campfire gathering last night and it chopped pretty well. It got some good attention from my friends, who are not knife folks. I regret not bringing my knife bag with the big boys, lesson learned.
Next up is the jimping. I'll take my time on that and prob post a write up using TravisH's instructions.
Thanks for looking!

Absolutely brilliant man, your hard work has paid off mate, a great looking blade 👌

Awesome job my friend. Looks awesome.

TravisH, that jimping job is perfect.

BTW, I was trying to get a similar result with the patina today, on my Cam BK2. It didn't turn out so hot, so now I'm sanding it.

Thanks, y'all!
Yeah Warrior, I tried putting the mustard on, leaving it while I boiled cider vinegar then dunked it and let it sit for over an hour, hardly did anything. So I went with room temp white until it turned black, baking soda and toothbrush wash then the mustard again only like 40 min til it dried, then washed and did a second. I'll prob do any patina again like this because it gets really dark quick. Barely any rust if any.
I wipe the mustard all over then dab it until it looks kinda uniform but not thick. Just little yellow dots all over. Shoulda took pics but I was in and out of sleep until like 4am lol.
MASH marathon on Netflix is awesome. Truth be told, I let the mustard sit for 2 episodes. I'm on season 9 :D

I measured and marked the blade. Then used a small triangle diamond file to score the center line of each jimp. Then the edge of a small flat diamond file, then a small round diamond file. As each jimp got progressively larger and deeper, I constantly remeasured to insure each cut was still centered. Finally, I switched to a 3/16" round chainsaw sharpening file to complete each jimp. Just take your time and let your OCD take over. ;)
Just to expound a bit ...

The reason for the progression in file size is two fold.

1 - the smaller files let you be more precise with your spacing. It's also easier to correct any cut going off course.

2 - the growing cut helps guide the next larger file. Without it, it's very easy for a large file to skate away on the hardened steel, ruining your spacing and crisp edges.

Again, take your time, go slow, and measure-twice-cut-once.

Thanks Aikiguy, really appreciate that!

TravisH- I'll def follow these guidelines, your help so far has been outstanding and I'm very thankful! You know ur stuff brother!

Man, I had forgotten all about this 12. Again, awesome job man. One of the best looking 12's out there.

Does the 12 seem 'sliceyer' than the 10 or others . I wish it was a full flat grind. guess its pretty close

Wow, thanks Dubs! Been loving it! A bit of an update, started on the jimping but haven't picked up the right size file yet to complete it. The VZ grips are great for this Blade. As soon as I set up my belt grinder the guard nub has got to go!

I don't have a 10, but its fine for slicing I suppose. I don't do a lot of slicy tasks and have noticed no inadeqacies in that dept. Certainly not like the 5 or 15 but I'm sure it's on par with the others.

Very nice! Great deal at $80. I like it with the ramp removed. Nice work.

Looks like you have the spacing good.
