Update: Fake PM2 at Cabela's?

I've never seen/held a PM2 (yet), so I wouldn't know how to spot a fake.

I never held one either until I got mine here off the exchange. There are plenty of great videos on youtube that break down what you need to look for. Go check them out, everyone considering a PM2 should know the tell tail signs of a fake.

This whole situation is hokey and unfortunate. It makes the saying, "You get what you pay for" all the more dishonest.

My pm2 doesnt match any of the fake signs but was not easy to flick open when i got it.

Update!

I just got back from cabelas and talking with the head knife guy again. They were indeed fake and will be destroyed but it is not near as bad as it could have been. Turns out there we only two PM2s at the store. Both were fake and both we recent returns. It appears someone knowingly bought fakes and returned them. The guy was very thankful and said they are going to be looking much harder at returns.

Moral her is nowhere is safe from these fake crummy knives. Whether it is shady folks in China importing them or our own citizens buying them to make a quick buck the fakes are out there and we as enthusiasts need to be vigilantly on the front lines to help stop this crap.

Wow! It all makes sense now. Thanks for the update.

I thought they couldn't sell returns as retail again! They sell them in that separate closeout room.

Wow, glad that turned out "relatively" ok. So I guess someone bought legit PM2s from them then returned the fakes and got a refund?

Heh, I ran across this same problem on Amazon. Someone bought (at least 2) Para's and returned identical fakes. I was lucky enough to buy the two fakes... Morals... Where are they? Some people are getting away with stealing, in a VERY deceiving way. It's sad it's come to this.

Yeah and they ended up with 2 new authentic Paramilitaries, for whatever low cost they got them for...

Hopefully Cabelas starts an investigation... Hopefully the crook paid with a credit card!

Even if they did pay by credit card and they did find out who returned them what then? I see the conversation going like..

Investigator: did u recently return some knives to cabelas?
Scammer: yes
Investigator: well you returned fake knives
scammer : well then I was sold fake knives to begin with.

As much as i hate to say it and as crappy of a situation as it is I just dont see anything coming from it. Sales people just need to be aware so it doesnt happen again.

The people at the return counter need to know better. And the corporations need to understand that this is happening and adjust their return procedures accordingly. And the end consumer needs to be as vigilant as ever because the first two things may not happen.

I didn't get into how the thing went down with the head knife guy (I should have really gotten his name, good dude) but it seems Cabela's royally screwed up. They weren't even stocking PM2s because as with most retailers, who has them in stock? It seems they do sell them online though so perhaps the dbs returned them with that as a guise in some way. The head knife guy assured me that their return structure on these things would change because of this so perhaps some good was done but who knows.

I'm guessing that the people who did the returns purchased legitimate knives, kept them, and put the fake knives back in the box for the return.

This happens in other industries too. For example, department stores like Nordstroms routinely get fake designer clothes returned to them. The knockoffs usually look good enough to fool the untrained eye. When you are selling that many goods in so many brands that are refreshed every season, you can't expect to train people to spot every fake.

Thanks for doing the legwork on this. It's an issue that affects us all and if enough people call foul when they see it hopefully we'll be able to make a difference.

Nope, the boxes were fake as well. They were very good fakes though. Also, they didn't have a UPC or label on them.
