The reason I'm posting this is because of the amount of email I received regarding my dad. So rather than tell this story 50 separate times I decided to post it here once. Now, as soon as I get this posted it's back to answering email. Stay tuned. I'll be putting up 4 or 5 special deals of the day. MANY THANKS FOR CONSIDERATION, CONCERN AND PRAYERS!!!!!
=================================================================

Sunday, my 91 year old Dad, Frank, was having trouble breathing (only about 80 years a smoker) so sister, Frances, who lives nearby took him to the ER at St. Johns in Springfield, MO (only a few blocks away). Tests indicated that he has suffered a mild heart attack. No major procedures required but I suspect he'll be on heart meds until something finally takes him down.

After some appropriate meds Dad was feeling fine and decided he would go home. He pulled out all the IVs and was trying to get dressed to leave when the nurse came in and stopped him. He tried to con (bribe?) her into bringing him a cigarette and told her he would hide in the closet to smoke it so nobody would know. Typical Frank.

I don't think he is ready to quit just yet. I'll know a lot more when I talk with him face to face next week. I need to tell him at least one more time just how much I appreciate all the effort he invested in me. He's one of the good guys, for sure.

Brother Fred said he would call if anything cropped up and I've heard nothing so in this case no news is good news.

Dad's got it together. He is somewhat like Patton in that he swears like a stableboy, smokes, but at bedtime prays on his knees. He'll be okay no matter how things go for which I am infinitely and eternally thankful.

And thanks again to all for wonderful consideration.

It's good to tell your Dad that he made a good investment in the way he raised you. Believe me when I tell you that good parents are getting harder and harder to find. And I see the results every day. Take care and enjoy your time with your family.

Ben

Glad to hear that he is a little better. Hopefully that trend continues.

Stay strong for him, and yourself.

his Prana is not yet leeching away. He could be here to stay!

In my family, it seems to be either love or hate that keeps the elders around long. When either leaves them, they have been soon to follow.

Frank does both (love and hate) with great gusto even at 91.

When he mentions Mom tears will come to his eyes. When he mentions old enemies his face turns dark and I think I see a little froth at the corners of his mouth.

Yeah your pop is a real tough man Uncle Bill! I think this world would be a better place if more people were like him...just look at the son he raised! You both are in my Prayers!;)

Sounds a lot like my own grandfather; I'll bet he doesn't let much slow him down no matter what the circumstances. Once again, best wishes for him and your family.

I don't post in the HI forums, so you may not recognize my username. I hope everything goes well for you and your dad.

I live in Springfield, and if you ever need anything -- let me know.

I'll send a couple of prayers addressed to occupant.

( Whomsoever is listening up there be it Yvsa's Great Mystery, Munk's Great Heart, Yahweh, Christ, Allah, the Mahayana's Buddha, or whatever. )

Your dad, Kami Sherpa, you, Yandu, Samten and Chopka, Lama Jigme, so on. Guess you could say it's the shotgun approach so that I don't miss anything, anyone. OK, off to light one of the 3 or 4 hour sticks.
