Some of you will remember a few years ago when several makers from Shop Talk made knives to send to a spec ops group in Afghanistan. Blade magazine even ran a short feature on the knives! :) Anyway, I recently heard from the soldier who got my knife and it was one of the finest days I've had (which is saying something lately!). Yesterday I got the following from him and he told me I could share it with you.

This is what it's all about.

“Hey Dave. This was a couple nights ago. We went hunting and had a pretty good trip. I was looking at the picture and realized you can see the handle of the knife you made. As you can see I changed the sheath. I went with the spec-ops survival sheath because I can pack the pouch with all of my emergency signal equipment. And the desert colors compliment the knife nicely. LOL. But I thought you might like a picture of me and ole 77 heading out for a night on the hunt. I am also attaching a picture of it in its current state. It looks a little rougher than the last time you saw it, but its still razor sharp and ready for work. And it has served me well over the last 4 years. Talk with you later. Wade”

How about that?! :D

In case you're curious what the knife used to look like, you can see it here.

That's cool.If you talk to him, tell him,Thanks for serving this fine country. Thanks to you for sharing.
God bless,Keith

Good lookin knife for a hard workin man. It is deffinately a testament to your work when a soldier of this caliber chooses to carry one of your blades. Being a soldier myself, I know the importance of a quality blade.

I approached a M.S. prior to my first deployment to Iraq back in '03 and asked that he make a blade for me. One of his first questions to me was why I wanted one of his blades as opposed to one of the many available blades on the market. Being a knife nutt, the answer was very easy for me. I told him the truth, if I get in a spot where my life depends on my blade.....I want it to be the best damn blade I can put my hands on. We soldiers still joke about our equipment being made by "the lowest bidder". When it comes to the equipment we choose to carry as opposed to being issued, we want it to be the very best we can get.

Congratulations on a job well done. I know alot of these soldiers like "Wade" sometimes get alot of "supposed" high speed gear given to them because of the type of soldier they are. The fact that he has chosen to continue to carry the blade you made over the past four years is a HUGE compliment to your work. Well Done!!!

Well done Dave and well done to the troops. They deserve more recognition for the job they do for your counrty and the rest of the world. That goes for current and previous men and women who have served.

Dave,
What a testament to your character, honor, and knifemaking skills !!! Oh how great to get an update on ole # 77 and see that she is serving both the country and Wade with pride to this very day. And looking none the worse for wear I might add.

Good Karma to Wade, 77, and you for your the great service to our nation. In a small way donating a knife to member of our armed forces is a service to us all and espescially to Wade.

Thank you and THANK WADE for me if you get the chance- Josh

Hey Dave. That is really cool that you got such a great reply after all those years. Great looking knife too!!!
