UPDATED AGAIN - Junk shop find- how'd I do? Kinfolks, Ontario

Per USMCPOPs suggestion, I contacted Dean Case at the Kinfolksinc website. I sent him the description and the pics, and this was his reply to me:

Looks like a WWII era 6” fighting or commando knife. Our book Kinfolks Knives is available on Amazon and has many details on this knife. The fuller on the blade is often called a blood groove even though it was added for strength as GIs tended to pry open crates and such. Notice the lack of brass washers which indicate a war era production.
Happy trails,
Dean E Case

I have been diligently working on the knife, though I have not been able to give it as much time as i have wanted due to family obligations.
I did get a generic sheath for it off the big river. Fits well.

Most of the rust has been removed, though there are still a few a few spots to work on. The leather washers in the handle have been well conditioned and feel great! I love the way the red liners stand out.

Here is the knife as it stand now. I'll post updates again when I'm done.

Good stuff! Nice haul. Those should clean up nicely. Make sure you sharpen the edge of the E tool in case the zombies attack while you are digging your hole to crap in. :)

UPDATE-

The knife cleaned up nicely. Given the connection these things have with the USAAF, I actually contacted the New England Air Museum. We are members there, and they are a wonderful resource when it comes to military and civilian aviation history.

Long story short, they are going to be taking it into their collection. Although it doesn't have the provenance that would make it a truly valuable historical artifact, (ie. if it was Chuck Yeager's knife that he wore when he set the air speed record), it will likely be included as part of a display of typical issued survival gear.

I'm sad to see it go, but my thought on any piece of history is that we never really own it. We just hold it in trust for the next generation. I'm glad that this particular piece will be housed and protected for future generations. IMG_2480.jpgIMG_2479.jpgIMG_2478.jpgIMG_2477.jpg
