I've wanted to add a few more knives to my factory made tactical collection for some time.
I neglected it while spending money on balis, autos, customs, guns, etc.
I came across a local shaver shop years back that's owned by a fellow knife nut.
He has a few cabinets full of knives.
I noticed he has quite a few old school spydercos.
Prices are a bit high on all his knives, so they tend to stay there.
In the era of internet purchases it's no surprise.
He doesn't care and seems to just display his collection there.
But some of the old school spydies have gone up in price/collectability WAY above the original MSRP his was still listing.
At some point I noticed a rare Spyderco Rookie there, and well, after going in there 10 times in the last few years, I finally caved and went into his store today, cash in hand to get it.
I asked if he has the box and his wife brought one out that said rookie but had another ROOKIE in it!
It was the later variation with an added liner to boot!
Of course I had to buy both.
Got an old Herbst I've been eyeballing there for some time too.
He had both an aluminum seki made and the Ti German one.
The Ti one made in Germany was only 440c but had no serrations, which i prefer without.
I did some research on these after the last time I saw it there and remember reading that the German ones are Boker made and had some issues.
If you find one that's in good condition and not a second, grab it.
So I did.
Turns out its a numbered one!
Anyway, here's a quick pic I took with my phone: (obviously I prefer the old stuff and Wegners!)
