Hey guys,
Alright so as I said, I ordered the endura and the AK. The AK just came in today. I am impressed overall at the quality of the knife given the price. I did a brief video of what I thought and if I get a chance, I will put it up. I'll give you the skinny on it here though.
Alright lets start off with initial impressions.
The AK is a big knife. I am used to the slender design of the SOG Pentagon Elite II. The AK is very ergonomic, but there is no doubt that you have it in your pocket. To this end, it seems to be a very solid knife. No wiggle from the blade, it just feels like a "man" knife. This may not be a big deal to knife enthusiasts but to your average joe, they will take notice (especially in the crowd of military folks I associate with). The blade isn't razor sharp out of the box but it will definitely do. The blade is long enough for what I need it to do. I am definitely enjoying the thickness of the blade.
As far as the grip is concerned, G10 may be the nicest grip I have had in a while. It's huge and fits in my large hands well. I like it.
I especially like the pommel. Although I don't plan on crackin skulls with it, there are some times when you have a can of tuna or stubborn nail that just needs a little extra convincing. I can't tell if they shipped me the old version or the new one. The pommel feels like plastic but it might be ano'd aluminum. This is irrelevant as I am machining a stainless steel pommel.
Now for my gripes. The clip. Bless its heart. I can say with certainty it is never coming out of my pants unless I want it to. It is tearing my jeans to pieces. I have seen a few mods to prevent this. I am not sure if I am ready to do that yet though. I am hoping it will fix itself in time. Overall, I like it. Those who will hate on cold steel will do so regardless. From a practical standpoint, this strikes me as a working man's knife. You may order just a knife, but I am fairly sure they ship each one with bravado and balls.
