That is the one that got all the knife collecting started.
Several years ago, I had just joined my wife in Brighton, UK. She was finishing up a conference of European neurologists and had a few more things to do, so I had a couple hours to kill in Brighton before we left for London.
She had been there for a week, and said the only thing in Brighton that could possibly interest me was an antique militaria shop. Off I went.
So, she is actually to blame for all of this.
It must have been just pre 9/11/01, because, althought it was wrapped up, I carried it on the flight home. It is probably the last Katana that will ever have been be carried on a commercial airliner. I bought it for the Hamon. The story that I was told was that members of the Imperial Foreign Service had their handles wrapped in white. Because it is a modern, but very traditional upscale piece it was probably made for someone of an Ambassabor's rank. Supposedly it was liberated from its owner in Southeast Asia by a British soldier as a war souvenir.
All that REALLY fine hardware and so organized. Peter's like the guy down the street who's got everything in order: His yard is always perfect, his truck is spotless and shiny and his garage, when opened, has every tool hanging perfectly in place with a linoleum floor and a nice snap-on wall clock.
