I've seen reference to an updated Native from you lucky folks who made it to the Blade Show. However, I've read no details on this. So what's up? Are any details available? Thanks.

And the shape of the blade is a big improvement as well. I'm looking forward to buying one as soon as they become available.

I too am very interested in what changes may have been made to the blade shape of the Native. I wasn't aware that any were planned...just the change to VG-10 blade steel as an option from CPM-440V.

Blade shape change?!?!?! I expected the VG-10, but was not thinking they would redo the blade.

Oh that would be cool if they made a full flat grind Native now that the Calyspos are discontinued! That would give the awesome cutting of the Calypso and the much more secure grip of the Native. I could REALLy like that!!!!

Why screw with a winner? The Native is one of the most perfect knives that I have ever seen or owned. it is so perfect that I own two, A BF Blue and an FRN, and I have given 2 FRNs to friends.

Here are Sal's comments about the Native redesign from another thread here in BladeForums

The design changes are minor. moved this 1 mm that way, changed this a little, changed that a little. One would have to "know" the model or have the two side by side to see the differences.

FullerH says: "why screw with a winner"

While I dearly love my Native, a Native HD would ROCK!

-flat ground similar to the leaf blade Temperence Jr. but with a swedge

-VG-10 with navy blue G-10 handles to add strength but not weight

-relieve the large finger groove a bit more for full access to the hole

Nothing so perfect it can't be improved upon a bit :p

The "new" Native is more of an addition that a change. We have made a few refinments to the design because we're going to have some made in Seki. As long a a new mold was going to be cut, we took advantage of the ooportunity to try some changes. The current model will still be made in the US plant. We believe this addition will assist in meeting the demand for this model, which we have not done well.

Hi Fuller. Refinement is our evolutionary obligation to humankind.

The new model is an addition, rather than a replacement. The changes are in minor changes to the shape of the FRN hanbdle. The handle is still FRN. Tha blade pattern is the same, the swedge is a different shape. They will be made in Seki. Quality will be equal. Steel is VG-10.

I believe this well permit us to provide sufficient quantities.

Then the intent is to keep an FRN version with a CPM blade of some sort available? If so, then I am happy for that is what made the Lightweight Native such a winner in my view.

Any chance of pics of the new Native coming online?

It'll be close, a new Native (Native III?) or the new Tim Wenger Trakk'r. I'm freshly spyder bit...
