Updated: Rodent 9..Efficient.

Zulu..great question..lots of folks talking about that bad boy as well..Please tell me you'll be doing a review..we need to know it performs..

Great review! I have considered the R9 ever since I got the R4 ( Which is one of my favorite blades).

droptyne, with a name like that.. you need to be posting a picture of those monster bucks you have hanging on your wall :D
You should really check out the R9..I'll be taking the review in a different path later on today, hopefully, and getting into what puts the R9 on steroids compared to other mid sized choppers..specifically the handle ergos and versatility you have by different grips.
For now I'll just say that the blade literally "transforms" from a deep penetrating chopping tool to a precision instrument when you choke up on it..need to post pictures to show this clearly..but it is a marvel of how natural, and yes I am not just using words..it is truly a natural hand position when you choke up on it for the finer work.
It's one thing for them to make a killer blade..it's completely amazing to consider the planning that went into the handle design on this..please stay tuned..once you see the pics, it may show you this is a blade you might need in order to consolidate your field blades, rather than just want.
Lord willing, I'll definitely have it to process the deer this season.

I will try to do a review when I FINALLY get it...sheesh this wait is nuts. Now for comparison I'll see what can I throw against it, but I'm guessing the closest comparison would be with a BK9 or Ontario sp50 (from what I have)

nice review! wonder if the SY 911 will have the same performance or maybe better due to the handle...still impatiently waiting for mine...

The 911 looks like a very sweet blade..looks like a Chopper that will be much sought after, for sure..can't wait to hear of what you think of it..waiting is...soooooooooo hard isn't it?
From what I've seen, the blades look almost identical..just purely as a visual comparison (as have never held a 911) as a long term dedicated chopping tool only..Res C is very hard to beat for comfort..man it just cushions your hand.. and it could have the advantage in that point..but as an all around blade, (again never having held one, just seen pics/vids) I'd have to say the R9 would be my pick as an all around blade in light of cutting applications/finer work/choke ups, due to:
(A) ergos on the hump of the R9, which help lock the blade in a set position for finer work
(B) the double bevel on the choil, so it does not bite into your index finger when you wrap it.
(C) the half moon choil versus the more squared style on the 911, as less hot spots
(D) the sculpted micarta where your middle finger, ring finger and palm rest on the choke ups, are ergonomically perfect IMO, my hand just fits like a glove
(E) looks like there will be more weight in the R9 handle, giving more balance for cutting/finer work etc...I'll have pics up later today to show you what I mean.

Just my opinion though..would love to see a review of the 2 side by side going through all the phases together.

All, please see OP..added pics/detail on handle design and benefits in cutting/choke ups.

Thanks for the review! It helped me decide to try one out myself :) Now I just have to wait till it arrives.
