Updated to share WIP - will be pic heavy when it's done

Thanks for the nice compliments, Psycho. I looked at your knives and I am quite impressed with your work. I think there are a few new makers around here that are really putting their hearts into the craft.

After Blade, I plan on organizing a new maker's event. You may want to be involved.

Erik

Why thank you! I would definitely be interested in such an event. Keep me updated.

Now that's some nice work, and I love that chef's knife! Looks like it'd cut like a rabid beaver!

I have been light on shop time lately because of higher priorities, so progress has been slow with this batch. This one is for my wife.

M390 at 60-61 RC
1/8+ stock (.135)
6.75" OAL, 1" height, 3" cutting edge.
Grey G10 slabs w/ toxic green and blue G10 liners.

I had some issues from the start with this one, but I feel that I worked them out for the most part.

I hope that everyone who went to Blade had a great time.

Nice, Erik! Your wife should be thrilled with that one. Really love the handle color and the liners make it pop. Great looking grinds and it looks comfy.

Happy father's day buddy!

Erik, Great work I especially like the Chef knife. That handle looks really comfy! I agree with Jonny, get some more of those done.

The chef knife looks incredible Erik. Your latest looks really good too. The scales and liners nicely compliment the satin finish of the blade.

Thanks, Tiiiiiiiim,

I really like the chef, and it is getting a lot of use by one of my best friends which is great. We were camping this week and took that last one and a camp knife I made a while back. It was great to put those to some real use as well.

My wife kept hers pretty clean. This one got abused, including letting my friend's kids draw it along magnesium until they made a fire - they pretty much wore out the rod in the process. :)

With my other batch on it's way to PA, it's time to get back to this group. I decided to finish the mini chopper next. I started this knife on New Years Day, so it's about time....

I decided this one needs corby bolts - I want it to be tough enough for abuse. I didn't drill this for corby bolts, so I added pins for shear strength and the corbys will add mechanical fastening of the slabs. I considered other ideas like hidden pins, but in the end decided that a little more hardware showing on a Harley inspired knife would be cool - we will see.

Hey GHaile,

I have to say I wanted to do a new maker's event so I could get a better idea where I fall in the mix among other new makers. Then I went to my first knife show. I met David Sharp who has been making knives about as long as I have (maybe a year and a half now). He has made many more knives than me, and is showing at shows in California. He blew me away with his work. I also held knives at almost every other table and talked to those makers. I now have a fair idea where I fall among at least one new and several experienced makers. My enthusiasm for a new maker's event has been replaced by my anticipation of the upcoming SoCal knife shows. I'm sorry I pledged to set up an event that I no longer find necessary. If there is high demand, I will set it up just the same. But, I think the best thing new makers can do is get out and see experienced maker's work and talk to them.

On Peter's, they are great. As far as a mixed batch goes, be very careful. If your knives need different HT or tempering, the costs go up quick. I got lucky, and I think Brad did me a favor, but the real value at Peter's is batching the same HT/temper because they will do 20 pounds of knives for the price of 1. Different heat treatments can cost you $72 each, differing tempers, $10. Call Brad and tell him what you have before you ship him a mixed bag. The turn around is good, but I think they are getting more popular, so no promises.

Thanks, BMK,

I've drilled and filed the slots in kydex thus far. It's a real pain. I'm going to try chucking up a Roto Zip bit or and end mill bit in my drill press next time I need a channel.
