I always wonder what becomes of the knives everybody chooses to take from the box, so I figured we should post updates on the knives we chose.

Was it something you wanted to try, and if so how did you like it. Was it a project candidate, and how did it turn out.
Let's hear what became of them.

This is a cool idea!

I'll start with this one because it has been in my pocket since I got it in the pass around.

I rounded the edges of the covers. It's a weird peeve of mine that these companies leave these knives like a block. That's just me though and not a valid complaint lol.

This is not going anywhere any time soon. It's breaking in nicely.

The case autumn bone small coke bottle is with its autumn bone friends in a display on my desk at work. It's now living a life of just looking pretty. Love it.

The Kershaw went to my B.I.L.

The sharpening stone and the Cudeman vendetta are in the drawer right next to my chair. I haven't used the vendetta yet and the sharpenening stone is top notch for on the go.

The SAK is in my sons tackle box , the what-a-knife was given to a what-a-knife collector and that RR was sent to a new home in a giveaway.

In the Case pass around #37 I traded for this awesome putrid bone 47 and a white plastic copper lock. This 47 is frickin awesome.

The white plastic copper lock had blue staining and stuff and it is currently completely disassembled awaiting the perfect covers to come along. I'm really indecisive on it.

These are the only 2 previous selections I can think of that I still have.

The Case I don't carry too frequently, but still enjoy it when I do.

And this Schrade 12OT that had a canted blade and a lot of play.
I took it apart, converted it to a through pin construction and eliminated the aforementioned issues.

This IXL single blade barlow I selected yesterday.
I did nothing to this one but give it a nice edge, follow the instructions on the tang, and put it right into my pocket.
1000000672.jpg
1000000674.jpg

It's got quite a stout pull ( maybe a 7, I haven't really ranked pulls before) , but the blade has a beautiful full distal taper.
This is one great knife.

I didn't take a before picture of this Boker Barlow by itself, but here it is in a group shot of my choices yesterday.
1000000662.jpg

The pen blade was severely canted , and I don't yet have a clip point single blade barlow so I decided to do a blade delete and try my hand at recovering it in some red deer stag that I had around when I got off work today.

I've done one or two blade deletes in the past and rebuilt a knife or two, but this was my first attempt at something as involved as this.

It could use a little more polishing, but overall I'm happy with how it turned out.
I daydreamed about it coming out better than I expected that it actually would, and it turned out better then I expected.

glennbad sure is a bad man and I'm definitely nowhere near as good as him.

Real nice work there!

Real nice work there!
Thank you.
I'm still hoping I can improve the finish a bit more, and am going to see what I can do later when I get home from work.
Hopefully I can address the pivot pin without having to take much off of the bolster , because I don't want to touch the stamp.
It's one of those times where you'll be tempted to chase little imperfections here and there and wind up going too far when you should have left well enough alone.

Oh dang you already did! That's cool! Looks great! Nice piece of stag.

This is a fun idea for a thread.

I first won the Never Ending GAW in round #30. I picked a rough rider camp knife and this Browning. I moved on from the rough rider adding it back into the GAW next time I won it, but really enjoy this browning. I like how it has that buck knife lockback look combined with a slip joint secondary.

Then in round #68 of the Neverending GAW I took the following.

This was my first canoe so I was eager to give one a try and I also hadn't had a rough rider reserve yet. I'm also a big fan of smooth white bone which was aged nicely on this split back Whistler.

Not sure which round this was but picked this nice case stockman from the Case Passaround. This one has quickly turned into one of my favorite case knives.

Thanks.
About a year ago I ordered a red stag round to rehandle one of my Buck 119's, and it turned out to be too big around with too much pith inside.
The outer walls of the stag were thick enough though that I could slice off some perfect pieces for this.

That Browning was a great choice.
It was probably made by Seizo Imai, this was back when the average person still viewed Japanese knives as junk not knowing that many brands were sourcing some very good quality.

Yeah I'm not sure the age of the knife, the tang stamps just say Browning and other one says Japan. It does look aged, but I was pretty impressed with the fit and finish. Solid lockups for both blades with no blade play at all, as well as very smooth transitions from handle material to bolsters. Definitely a well made knife.

Most likely 1980's.
You definitely made a good choice, and being able to experience knives like this that you might never have even seen otherwise is one of the great things about the box.

Glad to see that Boker went to a good home! I never carried it, so was glad to send it along to someone who appreciate it!!

Sweet! Ya it's definitely found a home. They'll be taking this one off of my corpse. This and my Case sowbelly lol.

Boker does a lot of things right but one thing they do better than anyone else is the congress. It's such a good pattern.

I wound up making another swap and taking this failing Camillus TL-29 out of the box this morning.
1000000690.jpg
The pivot pin was severely sunken, the mark side cover split, and the driver blade wouldn't close right.

The bones were kinda rough so it didn't come out too pretty, but I succeeded with a blade delete.
I glued the split scale back together because I wanted to keep the TL-29 marking.

At least it's a good functional knife again.

That stockman is a beauty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that shield before. Real interesting!
EDIT: I found it on Google. It looks like was a Tractor Supply Co exclusive.

Yep, that's exactly what it is! The tractor supply near me never has anything interesting but apparently other locations stock a nice selection of Case knives.
