Very new to knife making really just in the test phases. Almost all of you know the setup for the harbor freight 1x30. What I want to do in the mean time of saving for a legit grinder is upgrade the table and platen on this harbor freight grinder. I am looking to replace the platen completely with a 90 degree bend of steel that I will drill slots in to fit the screw holes on the grinder. My issue is I can only find angle steel which isn't what I'm looking for. I want something that is about 1/4 inch thick, the width would be 1 inch, the height probably 5 inches and the depth would be probably 2-2.5. Does anyone have any idea where I could find something like that?

The table I'm just getting a plate of steel and fastening it to the that tiny one it comes with.

Thank you in advance

Is there a reason ordinary structural angle steel wont work ? ( I never looked close at H.F. powertools... cant envision precisely whats needed)
1x2" angle is available, but a 5" piece might be tough to find. What about 2x2 or bigger, simply cutting narrower as needed ?
Rectangular, or square tubing, just cut it up to suit...
Aside from having a shop fabricate a precise thing,
You may have to put on your ingenuity hat & search scrap bins.

The biggest reason is the lack of 5 inch angle iron. It's basically an L shape the base would be two inch and the height would be 5ish. There are two slots on the base side. Square tubing would have to have 5 inch sides lol just a real pain to find. May just have to have a machine shop make something.

You want the 2 inch as the sport leg of the L or is the 2 inch portion 5 inches long?

It's an L shape. The short portion is probably 2inches and the longer portio is prolly 5in. The thickness of the metal would be about 1/4 inch.
