Upgrade to a Paramilitary 2?

Hey guys!

So I have been wanting to upgrade from my normal edc for a while now. Part of that EDC is my paramilitary 2. However I've put this knife through the ringer and think it's high time to get something fresh and new (ideally with just as nice of performance).

Would love some suggestions, maybe with something in M390 or around that steel class. Keeping in mind I do pair my knives with a fixed blade.

Edit: Alright, so I have been considering a few details in what I am looking for in a blade, and decided that something sub 3 inches is going to be the goal, while also raising the budget to $300

Hm... a price range would help...
I really like my ZT 0620cf in m390 (0630 for non tanto). Heavier obviously but still an awesome edc in my opinion. ZT in general I think would be good option for your m390/CTS204p needs.

Honestly anywhere in the 100-250 range, however preferably lower is better

Gotta say, man, I don't really think you'll be able to "upgrade" from a PM2 in that price range. You can certainly "go in another direction" -- get a flipper or an axis lock or something -- but you won't find a better knife.

So how hard are the sprint runs to get a hold of?

I got my 0620cf for $180 on Amazon
Like SpySmasher said though I'm not sure it's an "upgrade" so much as it's just a completely different design that is also an excellent cutting tool. You could always look for a military in cts204 if you want a similar knife that has a few different characteristics. Bigger, liner lock, tip down.

Alright yeah fair point though. Different direction is more what I am looking for as opposed to something that is a literal upgrade. Around the same quality with a different design. Preferably with no assisted opening due to the nebulousness of legality surrounding them

How does the Southern Grind Spider Monkey compare quality wise? Are they similar, because I like the look of it

If s35vn is enough of an improvement, check out the Southern Grind Spider Monkey. I'd never met a 3.25" bladed modern folder that I liked enough to carry more than a few times (I prefer 3.5-3.8"). I can't say that I won't go back to larger knives; but I've been carrying the Spider Monkey since I got it. The cf version is toward the upper end of your range; but I've seen some pretty good prices on the Exchange.

Hard to beat the PM2 on price/ergonomics/steel options...

A Delica 4 is a better EDC if paired with a fixed blade. The zdp version can be interesting

ZT offers lots of options but most of the time it will be heavier.
My 0350M390 is the one I take when I need something for harder use
For EDC if you like the hinderer style the 0562cf is really nice

I second the proposition of the SG spider monkey. The fit and finish are very good
However it will be very different from the PN2 due to blade length and thickness and handle ergonomics
But for a smaller knife it is a good choice

The Viper Fortis is s grest way to go. Fantastic M390 blade and titanium framelock for well under $200. Less than $150 for the G10 scale versions.

It is worth noting that I do tote around a CPK EDC as well, which is a fixed blade.

I am also adoring how the spyderco native 5 looks in black G10 as well, going to be considering both that and the southern grind currently

What he said^

I like the ritter griptilian in m390 and you could buy some aftermarket scales if your into that kinda stuff. They are tough as nails and the knife is 149$ scales are anywhere from 60-150 depending on how fancy you fancy your scales?

As long as you're ok losing the G10, a Benchmade Ritter Griptilian is right in the middle of your price range. M390 blade with an axis lock is a hard combo to beat. I love my mini, one knife I'd never get rid of.

I have a Southern Grind Monkey that I've carried every day (when not at work) since I bought it last September. I really like it. Blade shape and size is ideal for my tastes and it just fits in the hand well. I obviously recommend it. Another option for you is the new Knifeworks exclusive Benchmade Griptilian that comes with M390 blade and paper micarta scales.

Tweaked the first post to account for some changes in direction with this. Thinking sub 3 inch folders to have something I can also travel with (since it is looking like I will be needing to do a fair bit of that in the coming months)
