I always chuckle every time I read another USPS SUCKS! story. I'm not saying that they don't have problems sometimes but I read how much better the "Brown" UPS truck is. Trust me, the "BROWN" stands for shi..., well, you get the idea.

Let me start by saying I HATE UPS AND ALWAYS WILL! I have always been amazed at how many people that continually come to their defense! I will go to any length NOT to use them! I live in a very rural area and actually don't have a street address because I don't live on a street!

I live on a mountain side and the only road to my cabin is an old logging road. Neither USPS or the dreaded UPS can deliver to me because I am so rural and inaccessible, so I have to HAVE TO HAVE a P.O. Box. Let me say, I have only used UPS five times in all the time I've been on the forums and they have screwed up TWICE! The ONLY reason I have used UPS is because the buyer or seller has requested it.

I have used USPS HUNDREDS of times and I have had only ONE complaint! I sent a package about four years ago by 3 Day Priority Mail and it took eight days to get there. Yes, that's a big screw up but it's the ONLY one that I've ever encountered with USPS and the knife WAS RECEIVED!

A few years ago I sent one of Darrel Ralph's original Madd Maxxes back to Darrel to straighten out some problems that some of the very early ones had. I asked him to PLEASE ship it back to me by USPS but he refused. He said he only used UPS. I had sent him the knife in a padded case and thank God I did! The knife was delivered to me but the box was totally crushed and the knife, (in the case), was actually sticking out of one end of the box! If I hadn't sent it in a padded case, it would have been history!

Fast forward to the present. I made a trade with a gent and I sent him my knife by USPS. He was all the way across the country and I sent him my knife by USPS. He received it in TWO DAYS! He sent me his knife by UPS 3 Day Select. Yeah, 3 Day Select my as..., well you get the idea! After EIGHT days and much checking our beloved BROWN finally admitted it was LOST!!!

Two out of five ain't good odds and I know this will bring much defensive arguments from all you UPS lovers but like I said, I HATE UPS and all you fans of it can have it!!!:barf:

I would much rather use USPS.I ordered the Ti Herbst on the same day as a friend of mine.I asked that it be shipped USPS and did not think to tell him to do the same.I got mine 2 days later in the am,he got his 6 days later in the late pm delivered to his nieghbors house left on the porch. The package had the correct address.Good thing his nieghbor was a honest guy.

I will not defend UPS in the least. I have a knife inbound from Cali to VA and its going to take a full 7 days instead of the standard 2-3 with Priority mail at a going rate of $3.85, $4.30 with delivery confirmation.

I think the main reason many people use UPS is b/c they are allot easier to file claims with. I have received two packages over the course of the last couple years that had items break in transit with USPS. Filed insurance claims with both and never seen a dime from either claim.

UPS chose the color brown for a reason! I hate having to wait twice as long for UPS ground when Priority Mail is the same price or cheaper and gets there within 3 days!

Of course it's brown...it's a rolling PoS...U-PoS! And those government workers are worse!! USPoS! I won't send anything of any real value with US-PoS because I've found that the insurance is bull-****...they will not pay if there is a loss, they want to midigate...WTF is that?? And priorety? Who's priorety is it?? It's whenever they feel like delivering it, if they can find it!! I had a package coming from Washington state to SF, and it took 3 weeks!! It sat around in a warehouse across the bay from me for 2 of those weeks...probably keeping a door open or something by the looks of the box when it did arrive. Facking morons the one's I've dealt with...can't find their box with both hands...

I use Airborne Express almost exclusively...yea, I've had some problems with them too, but delivery is generally better than expected, and they honor their insurance.

I've dealt with UPS a lot not with knives but with something much easier to break... guitars. I've bought and sold several guitars that were shipped via UPS and have never had any problems. Then again I know a guy that has had something like 8 of 10 guitars he received via UPS be damaged in transit.

The answer is simple. Pack the things to the point of bomb-proof. :) If I was shipping a knife I'd probably fit a styrofoam block longer than the blade into the end of a box big enough for the knife, shove the blade into the styrofoam, then fill the rest in with newspaper. Then I'd shove THAT into a larger box filled with newspaper. It would take gross negligience to mess up something like that.
