Yeah...... I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I still can't figure out how they end up in places that aren't even close to where they're supposed to be.

I did end up getting mine eventually, hope your luck runs the same.

I haven't had those problems with USPS though... pretty amazing.

LMAO....that looked like what happened to one of my packages a year ago. It ended up 2,000 miles away from me, but eventually I received it. No fault of the company who sent it EXCEPT that they used UPS....LOL.

I have had Benchmade send me repairs from OR to the east coast and it takes 6-7 working days for it to arrive to me. I think the pony express was faster, no?!

When I ship items, I use USPS Prioirty Insured - 3 days MAX coast to coast, sometimes just 2 days! It doesn't get any better unless you want to spend the extra $ for next day delivery

My only loss (knock on wood) in over a decade was recently with USPS. A small package of gun parts sent priority mail - insured failed to make it from South Dakota to northern California. To add insult to injury, have you ever seen the multipart form for the insyrance claim? And they want receipts, pictures, and your first born child before paying off... bastards!

I've always found the UPS vs. USPS debate to be very interesting. It seems as though you have to go by personal experience: Some people have had better experience UPS and some people have had better experience with USPS.

Personally, I prefer UPS Ground over USPS Priority Mail. Let me explain why.

Yes, I know that UPS Ground is slower than USPS Priority. But, UPS guarantees their delivery times for packages shipped to business address. If you go to any post office, they will tell you that there is no guarantee for Priority mail in terms of delivery time; 2-3 days is the AVERAGE time. I've had Priority items take four days.

The second issue is add-on charges. USPS really charges a lot for things like insurance, delivery confirmation, return receipt, etc. I recently mailed a knife with USPS Priority. The insurance charge for $175.00 was $2.75. That seems like a lot. UPS insurance is much cheaper.

With UPS, you can track a package on line. USPS now offers "delivery confirmation" for thirty five cents but any post office will tell you that this option will only tell you if the package was delivered to the intended recipient and basically nothing else.

If a package is lost, UPS is much easier to deal with than USPS.

USPS Priority is definitely a good deal cost wise. But, I feel you have to look at the whole package to compare.

Never - Ever Ship UPS.
They are Apes and should not get the business of an self respecting person who needs to send a package.
Priority Mail works Fantastic, and Fed Ex does outstanding too...

So why would you send UPS?
Priority Mail will deliver on Saturdays too... UPS? Thats Iffy as heck...

I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, people would put me away!

My question is, have any of you had to put in a claim with the postal service when a package gets lost?

I've got a claim over a year old now that still hasn't been settled.

Also, what do you say when the customer calls up and wants their tracking number so they can see how it's coming along?

Of course both systems are imperfect so you just hope for the best.

Well, this is the first time I've had a problem with UPS. I ordered one of those LM Micra's that were available for whatever sick low price it was. I can understand the company being a little slow getting it out because of the number we probably ordered.

On the other hand, my Micra has apparently been sitting in some hub in California since 2 am Thursday...should I be getting concerned yet?

jpbulli,

Yes be concerned! My knife is back in IL for
the second time. Which is better than Portland. I guess. I had the pleasure of being on hold with UPS for an hour on Saturday before I gave up. Good Luck I know I need it.

In short, I hate UPS. Last year they mis-directed, or LOST, 16 shipments to my business. Once the driver told me to my face that one of my shipments was delivered to my competition just because the box was the size they usualy get! Guess they don't bother to read address's anymore.

On Wednesday, I returned a knife to a knifemaker. I sent it by UPS 2nd day. It went to the wrong state. It will be interesting to see how long they take to correct this. I still feel more comfortable with UPS than USPS because at least with UPS you can track the package and you can get the claim settled in a reasonable period of time. I package things very thorougly because I know they are rough with packages. I wonder what their story is anyways now-a-days, are they really short staffed, lousy management, poor work conditions, or what?

Go USPS.

I gave up on UPS a long time ago. UPS in my neck of the woods is geared up to support local businesses. If you are looking for home delivery - go elsewhere.

Once asked my local UPS office to hold a package for pickup... sure no problem they said. Check for the local UPS address on my delivery notice and in the Yellow Pages - no luck. Called them back for an address ... (response) sorry its against company policy to provide our address?!?

I guess I really don't have the patients to work with these idiots.
