Hello all,

My first RAT is out for delivery according to UPS tracking. A RC-3 Mill.

My UPS driver "Worm" should be here about 1:30 CST. (I have his cell phone number)

Welcome to the RAT Family . The waiting game by the door is the worst isn't it? But well worth it .

The RC-3 Mill was just delivered. While I'm happy with the knife there are grease stains on the handle (looks like 3 big thumb prints). It looks like a mechanic has handled it.

I scrubed the handles with dishwashing liquid and have put it outside in the sun. I's 75 degrees and sunny here today. Hopefully I can get them out.

Someone took this out of the package before they let you have it. The knives ship from the factory pristine. We even put a plastic cover over the handle. I would raise hell with my dealer about this if I were you. This is unacceptable.

When I received my RC3MIL last week or so,The knife and all contents were in a bag taped closed and after I removed RC3MIl from baggy,There was a plastic sleeve over the handle ?
Jeff is right I would talk to the Dealer you purchased it from !

Your dealer you bought it from removed it from packaging and handled it. Take it up with them. It may have been one they kept in a case and let many folks handle before they shipped it to you. AT any rate the staining should clean up ok and even if it doesn't with a lot of use the micarta darkens anyway with just the oil from your hands. But you should have a clean knife out of the box. Mike

K12s, WHat part of Tennessee are you in? I live in East Tennessee Northeast of Knoxville in Blaine. Mike

And we will go one better than that, if your knife doesn't clean up properly then let us know and we will ship you a new one and have you ship that one back...at our expense.

The biggest problem we have in this business is not from the end user, instead it's from the dealer that takes stuff out of the package and then forgets to put it back in the package or sells the knife without all the right parts, or misrepresents what they are selling to the customer.

To be honest with you, we are in the process of culling some problem dealers. We just culled a huge distributor this evening. I won't name any names but we expect our dealers to have the same integrity of the product and company they are selling. Period.

That's why guys like Knives Ship Free, Chestnut Ridge, Knife Works, Cumberland and the rest we have posted on our web site are on our web site. If you're good then we will advertise you on our site and here on BFs. If you're bad, you're gone. if you got your knife form someone that's posted here on on our web site, we want to know and we want to contact them. Could be just a simple mistake but this is un-called for in my book.

Jeff

Well,

The dealer said they didn't take it out of the package, said they didn't have this knife on display in B&M store, said RAT didn't come with a plastic sleeve on the handle, said it must have came from RAT like that....ect, ect, ect. No offer of restitution, 10% off coupon, or free hat. Nothing.

Anyway,

Will not order from them again and it's a very popular online store.

I'm off to scrub the handles some more. It's slowly lightening a little.

Still very happy with the knife. It just takes out a little of the fireworks of a new knife when you got to scuub it clean when ya get it.

Ps. MikePerrin I live middle Tennesse. (the armpit of the state)

Well, the way I look at it is our knives are not cheap. If a man pays his hard-earned money to buy one then he should get something that is first-quality and pristine. This REALLY pisses me off. I will be my farm, family and life that it went out of Rowen's shop pristine. Rowen's shop has more in-place quality checks than any shop I have seen. If you see Rowen screw up then you can bet everything that went out that day will be the exact same screw-up due to the way their quality system is set up.

Now, with that said, the dealer may be telling the truth. Especially if he bought it from the distributor we fired today. That distributor was known to rob parts from one package to fill another order.

If you can find out where the dealer bought the knife we would appreciate it.

k12s,

Shon Rowen just emailed me and wants to overnight you a brand new knife (at our expense). Then we will issue a pickup for the one you have now. Please email me your shipping address and the exact type of knife you got (plain or serrated). My email address is jeff@ratcutlery.com

Thanks,

jeff

Well, it just pisses me off because I've been in the same boat as k12s. Eagerly awaiting the UPS man to drive up. Get the package. Open it up. Damn! Something is either broken or missing. It ruins your whole day and leaves a bad taste in your mouth about the product, regardless if it was UPS's fault or some wino on the street. Again, people pay good money to us for their knives. We DEMAND that they get first-rate product for their dollars. It's a real simple agreement we have with our dealers and distributors.
