Upscale Delica

Seen the Micarta Calypso and Calypso Jr? I understand these were considered as upscale renditions of the Endura and Delica. They're really superb, though the Junior is in AUS-8, not the rather nice VG-10 of its big brother. Both are due for the chopping block this model year

I have a Calypso Jr. and like it better than any other knife I have at the moment. Still it has a different feel than the Delica. The blade is shorter but wider, flat ground, and the grip is a little different.

Beam - I have a Delica with ATS-55 blade and titanium scales. Is that upscale?

The Delica, Native and Calypso Yr. all service the same size / lite-weight market in different ways. All three are highly refined in their design requirement.

Sometimes you feel like a hump, sometimes you don't...sometimes you choose a choil, sometimes not. The Native will accomodate a larger hand. There are quite a variety of ELUs desiring that size with different preferences.

All will continually evolve to the best steel that each particular factory can or chooses to work with.

I have a Micarta Calypso and Calypso Jr. Sorry, they're getting dumped! The Calypso, Sr. is my favorite elegant full sized carry. I also have an Endura and a Native (A Blade Forum Special BTW and one grrreat knife) BTW the Jess Horn (not on the block I hope) also makes a delightful carry and is of endura size. The endura with Titanium scales sounds elegant, but I like the blade shape of the Calypso better. However, I haven't seen anyone carry it.

Sal, with all due respect, I hate being called an ELU. What ever happened to customer?

JCS - ELU is the best of the "customers".

The "distributor customers" really don't care about the knife except that it sells well. In most cases (not all), they don't even know the model except by number. (There are few exceptions, like John Jenson).

The "Dealer customer" cares more, but it still must sell well. If the Calypso doesn't sell well, they won't even try to carry it. They don't care that it may be a great knife. (Again, there are ex eptions like Dennis, James, Brian Huegel, etc)

It is only the "End Line User customer" that has the passion for the knife, the design, the materials, the craftsmanship. And End Line User (ELU) sounds more respectful than "Consumer".

if it matters, im an ELU, and proud of it.

my wife worked with mental patients, they were called "consumers" by the staff.

granted most of us lack a bit in the sanity dept, but i like ELU better anyway.
