$500 list is just ridiculous , but this "have to put in cart to see price " is pretty reasonable , IMO .

Scout model is finding itself in my pocket more and more , but I think that one is sufficient for my current needs .

Course , an AD10 in S35VN for ~$100 is gonna be enough knife for most folks and then some .

4Max is a real beast for hard work / survival , but more than most will want to EDC .

OK - I posted my opinion in another thread, but I think this thread is more appropriate. People feel $200 is a good price because most sites price it at $300-$00+, correct? But if you compare it to 4 Max Scout (granted with lesser steel in AUS10 but can be had with $130 less), Recon 1 (exactly the same materials but $100+ cheaper than this already hugely discounted price of 4 Max Elite), and some folders from some other brands, the $200 price is not favorable at all. The only thing making this knife stand out is its unnecessary strength and perhaps also heavy weight. $150-$200 should be what the price was originally.

Mostly agree and definitely think the $424 map price is ridiculous. However, a big factor increasing the price over a Recon 1 is the titanium liners. Not sure that justifies two times the price (saying a Recon 1 can be had for $100 sometimes and $200 for the 4Max Elite), but it's a definite cost increasing difference from the Recon 1.

Another is the thicker cnc'ed handles. Spyderco says their Shaman costs so much more than the PM2 because of the added costs of manufacturing the thicker handle slabs, so that also seems to be a reason the base price would be higher for the 4Max than Recon 1. You can't really compare that to the Scout either because those are grivory and a totally different manufacturing process.

The 4-Max Scout is 100% an incredible deal, full agreement there! But I disagree on the 4-Max, I think $200 is right about where the full-fat version should land.

Consider the Spyderco Canis, which is also made in Taiwan and has a street/MAP price of around $222. Assuming equal fit and finish -- which I don't think is a stretch, I've owned plenty of CS knives with stellar F&F -- then the 4-Max at $200 is right on the money. (Or both are overpriced. ;) Which IMO isn't the case, but YMMV. )

Sorry - I didn't see the liners of 4 Max Elite are titanium. If that is the case, then $200 is a good price.

Some Spyderco folders are overpriced including canis and shaman though that would belong to another discussion.

I grabbed one at that price. I also grabbed the oyabun limited for finally a makes sense price point.

Can't get into the oyabun folder at all. Not only is it a total departure from the old fixed blade version (like why use the same name?), but the blade and handle proportions look all cattywampus to me.
yeah I can't disagree with anything ya said. you're right across the board.

I got a cheaper one and I disliked it for awhile, but its grown on me. now I want to see if the better one compared to the cheaper one, makes any difference. kinda like the China built bush ranger to the upgraded one. for 100 and change bucks roughly, im willing to see.

for what they been selling at, no way in hell......

No Tri-ad lock and not appealing enough , just because it looks sorta like a Master Tanto , which I've loved from inception . ;)

Still , I was a tiny bit tempted at the sale price , but would have hated myself in the morning . :p

Yeah , I gotta think ,even that "bargain priced" amount of money can find me a better knife somewhere else . :)

one of us has to compare the low end one to the higher end one..so its me.😁

yeah its no real bargain at 100 plus Bucks. that should have always been the selling price point..not a for sale price

I also grabbed from a different dealer, a tanto ad10 lite. its not a real bargain either right now, but I used a discount point setup I had so got it for a bit less.

Yeah , I use similar thin excuses / justifications . :p

Added a Drop Forged Dagger to my last order, just so that I could get free shipping on ammo and "save money" .
