Hi, I'm looking for a backpack to wear around in the city or airport. I have owned maxpedition backpacks and I love them but I hate all the molle attachments, buckles and straps. I looove the quality of them though so I wear them out camping or fishing.

I'm looking for something just to put a jacket and my comix and some books in and still have leftover some odd and ends. I'm looking for something in a slim profile, good quality material and I'd like it to come in black. No velcro, no MOLLE or multiple straps. I'd really rather not pick up a jansport, they fall apart in months. I'd be willing to pay as much as maxpedition charges for their most popular packs.

I ask here because I've tryed searching it, but it's hard to search that kind of stuff without getting millions of unwanted results. Also, these kind of forums have people knowing all those brands only outdoorsey, military and knife/gun nuts really no about. Much thanks.

I'm looking for a very discreete looking bag. Preferably in a nylon or cordura type material. So far I've looked at the under armour bags and I like what I see, does anybody have experience with these?

Eddie Bauer is having a sale on their packs - you can get a roughly 1800 CID pack for less than $40.

Consider also going back to Maxpedition with the Pygmy Falcon 2. I too do not like all of the straps, but you can cut off many of them (like the compression strap) and cauterize the ends with a lighter. Getting rid of all of those straps is good. I think this makes a very nice, smallish but adequate day pack for hiking, or EDC pack for work or urban use. Just a thought.

I just use a victorinox messenger bag.

If you don't mind the manpurse stigma it might be what you're looking for.

Eddie Bauer?
either online or at their retail stores.
I picked up a trailhead pack and it's either 1770 or 1880 cid - I can't remember which.
Cabela's also has Camelback day packs -sized for laptop or hydration bag. Priceon those is pretty reasonable, too.

Chrome makes the best bags. Period.
Notice that I didn't say, "best bag for the money." Just the best. No questions asked.

I have the Ranchero, and it's pretty big despite being called a "medium":

For what you're looking into, I would recommend the Dually:

There's some velcro that helps hold the flap in place in case you don't want to use the flap buckle. But I usually get some 2" wide fuzzy-side velcro strips and cover up the exposed hook-side stuff that is sewn onto the bag. That way it doesn't make noise every time I open it.

I had an Under Armour bag for school. Worked well and still serves my brother faithfully. You can find them for cheap at Marshalls or Ross (one or the other, I can't remember which).

I've since moved on to Dakine backpacks. They're nice for the light urban duty duty I put them through. I've had the Campus and Duel, both of which had a little insulated pocket good for bottles of water or soda cans. They're also pretty discreet since they don't scream out "I'm carrying a laptop!".

Chrome bags are great. I have 2. I have a Ranchero and an Ivan. Im thinking of getting rid of the Ranchero however. I just dont use it very often

Exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. The eagles would make great hunting/camping packs but it just screams military too loudly for me. Also, I've looked at the chromes and they are bit too big, same with the oakley bags. The other suggestions were either too big or a little too pricey.

If anybody knows any other packs like the tactailor urban operator that'd be great. I think the search has pretty much ended, I'll give it a little time just to make sure that 'perfect pack' doesnt jump out at me before I drop the dough so any more suggestions are helpful, thanks alot everybody.

Tumi if you're looking for compact high class nice quality backpacks (specially for like travel/airports). Kelty/Osprey/Northface/REI if you're looking for city travel and casual/outdoor stuff. I personally use Kelty redtail daypack and like it a lot so far,
