Urban bug out bag knife?

My heart goes out to you my friend.

It looks like enough people have added their opinion and you are on your way to building a decent bag.

As for knives, I normally recommend two knives. The first is a Swiss Army Knife. It gives you so much in a small package. And, you can keep in your pocket when/if you are not allowed a fixed blade knife.

If you can find a “plus” series SAK, you will gain a straight pin and a small ball point pen. Both are nice to have. If not, not a big deal. Many people prefer the Alox series with metal scales. Something else to consider.

The second is a Mora fixed blade. Lightweight, decent steel, Inexpensive. Around here the fixed blade is considered a weapon because of political correctness. So we would normally be denied the use of a shelter with a fixed blade on our person.

Those are the two most basic knives that I normally recommend. Like others have suggested, a multi-tool is always good. A friend swears by his Leatherman Sidekick. I have a Leatherman Wave in my pack and Spartan SAK.

Thank you for this.

Situation is OK, they stabilized it, and I'm personally not that affected by earthquakes since there's no damage on my property, and despite the fact that there are still frequent tremors at the epicenter site - I don't feel majority of them since I'm not that close to the epicenter.

Regarding shelters, I'll just continue to hope I won't even need one.

Now, situation here sucks, police on the streets and are blocking traffic, you have to have "the pass" from employer or some other source or you aren't allowed to go anywhere. You can only go to grochery store or pharmacy and have to show them your receip or bill. Lucky for me - you can still walk your dog legally. It's a valid reason since it's about animal's health and well being (so yes, I walk my dog a lot latley).

They were also locking down people in house quarantine on massive scales (over 20 thousands by now) without doing any testing which is ridiculous and now those people complain to the court.
They're also notorious for avoiding testing people (only around 20 tests per day) until EU ordered them to get a grip and start testing and now they test 200 people daily total. Which is ridiculous since they already locked up over 20 thousands without any tests, and these people aren't allowed to even go to the store or they risk getting fined.

The first victim here was only tested for the novelty coronavirus after his death which tells you everything.

Cheap smaller prybar is a good idea
After an earthquake, a pry bar makes a great deal of sense. Depending on the size, it can also be used as a weapon. It is also a good idea to have a few tarps available at home and perhaps one that you might carry (the special one that is lighter ;)). I would carry sufficient stuff to set up a base camp and a little comfort goes a long way. But I think in terms of larger items and a lot more food than you can carry in a backpack.

Glad to hear that things have stabilized following the earthquake. We live in a very fragile world.

I have pry bars and also large crowbars which are kept in wooden barn outside so even if house goes down - I'll have those available.

Well now they want to track our phones on massive scales and freedoms and rights of the people have already been grossly taken away. Which is a very bad thing on top of already invasive surveliance and monitoring of your online activity.

Now there are conspiracy theorists which say that they will ultimativley want to put a chip under our skin and how it'll apply to everyone.

Then you get confused when you hear they already do that in some places, Sweden and some UK and US companies and so on... but it's optional. Then you get to think "what if it won't be optional soon?" And with so invasive and drastic measures - I'm getting confused since now it doesn't even sound crazy that they could plan this...

Vonnegut’s “Sirens of Titan” comes to mind.

Rented a tent, a tent, a tent.
Rented a tent, a tent.

Did you say you're in Croatia?

Just asking, 'cause if you're in Croatia, the only knife you need for your bug-out bag is a boat knife. And a diving knife. And a fish filet knife. And then you need to take that bug-out bag and bug out to go fishing. Every single day. If you're "urban," then likely that's your problem. :D

Something I didn't see mentioned for an emergency bag - a whistle. It can be used to attract attention, communicate with others at a distance - "stop", "return to base",etc

If you happen to be hurt, you can blow a whistle for a very long time after you have yelled yourself hoarse trying to attract attention. I actually carry a police/bullet whistle everyday "just in case". I used it a couple of months ago to warn folks in a parking lot that a grocery cart was hurtling down down at them unattanded.

I put a SAK, Izula, and sometimes a Cold Steel MiniRecon in my bag. I also have a small light hatchet.

this made me laugh :D

But I'm in that continental part of the country, and it's very cold here currently.

"Make sure you have something to cook in, and some way to open cans."

Good advice for sure.
A nice medium sized cooking pot is freaking awesome.

BTW, just about any knife blade will open a can easily.
You might need to sharpen the blade after a few cans, but it will not harm your blade.

Sup, Smiling. Hope you and your family are okay. I’d always recommend bringing as much drinking water as possible, coupled perhaps with a portable filtration system (like a LifeStraw). Dental hygiene and extra underwear, first aid kit and maintenance meds of family members, books or games to help keep our sanity are important too.

As for knives, I’d take my Recon Tanto too accompanied by my Mora Kansbol and CS AK-47 folder. Weight and space considerations would restrict the number of knives we can carry unfortunately.

Well, thanks for the advice.
I currently don't have life straw or anything similar but I plan on getting it once this is over.

Good news is that I probably won't even need to use bug out bag as seismic activity seems to be in decline.
