So I was supposes to do my minimalist overnight lastnight in to today...As I was packing yeterday morning I get a call from my docs office saying something was funky with a test I had done and I needed to see a cardiologis right away. as a 32 year old athlete and new father that's not exactly awesome news..the only avail appt was tues night so there goes my trip...Turns out I have a minor heart defect nothing big just gotta keep my eye on it and make some minor lifestyle changes. so anyway I was gonna go for a dayhike today, but decided to stay local so I could go to the archery range in the afternoon and do some shooting. So my mother owns a piece of property on a salt water bay in a manhattan suburb, there is a burnt out house on it and it is fenced in on 3 sides. THere are several large maple and fruit trees, and a fair # of rats. becaus of the abandin house and the water I guess. So I found some dead fall branches and whittled some figure 4's and set them up...than I wittled a bow drill and tried to start a little tinder but I was using jute twine and it kept breaking, I did whittle a nice spoon and caught and released a few small blue fish. By the end of the day I had caught to small rats in the figure 4's and brought them home to feed to my corn snake...Than I went to the range, and had a great day. just wanted to share it. oh and all the whittling was done with a sak and a woodswalker, I reached more for the Sak ad the spine of the woodswalker hurts my thumb (too thin) I love the knife If the spine was a little thicker it'd be perfect.

Good to hear everything is all right. I have a heart arrythmia that I've had since I was born. I've never let it stop me. It takes the old ticker a while to get used to strenuous activity. But it feels good to be blowing people away hiking in the mountains knowing that I'm working with faulty equipment.

Really good that you were able to do something you enjoy and take your mind off things. Probably stressful thinking about the test. Glad things are OK.

If necessary repeat and/or buy a new knife. In Blade this month is a picture (me and my knife) of a fellow that had cancer, his wife bought him his dream knife (Black Sable) and it really picked him up.

My best regards...

rr- glad to hear that everything is okay.....

i love going on short hikes and practicing my primitive skills... it is a lot of fun... i live across the street from a huge state park and 10-30 minutes away from 4 others....:D

Glad it isn't serious.
