if it aint too much trouble go for it . just call me sometime and we'll figure it out . maybe can grab something to eat when we are off work or i could drive down there on the weekend .mistwalker , if it gets bad where we work we have serious problems . i hate that place ,especially the downtown area.my new route takes me slightly more north for now but i dont know how long it will last .maybe we can talk about it one day and figure something out . there's a big part in my bugout plan that i dont know what to do with and i think you know what part i'm talking about .

I'm in law enforcement, so if the SHTF, I'm obligated by duty to help the community through it. Even knowing that, I've lived through a few bad scenarios and thought about some nightmarish ones. Bad environmental events down here in Louisiana have names. Katrina, Ike, Andrew, Betsy etc. Hurricanes. Bugging IN is a much better idea than trying to bug out for obvious reasons. I'm far enough away from the coast and on high enough ground to where I shouldn't have to worry much about flooding due to rainfall from one of these storms.

I almost hang my head in shame when one of these storms come rolling through and people scramble to buy EVERYTHING. Literally, Wal-Mart will be empty. You can't even find damn socks there. The first things to go are obvious...canned goods and water. I keep a healthy supply of beef jerky, canned soups and the like. Bottled water? No thanks. I buy a gallon of bleach. It's a FREAKING HURRICANE! Water is free and in abundance as long as you know how to collect it. A gallon of bleach will treat a LOT of water. Every pot and pan that I have gets put on the north side of the house. I'll collect them during lulls in the weather, treat them with the bleach, run them through a filter to clear out debris, and keep the tubs and sinks filled.

A nightmare scenario around here would be the total and catastrophic loss of some of the major refineries. Pollution would quickly destroy natural resources quickly and the masses in Baton Rouge will start pushing my way. I'd have to load up the family and leave quickly. I couldn't hold out long in a subdivision with limited resources and desparate people walking around in the masses. My plan, if possible, is to load up the family and head north. If that isn't an option due to road closures, quarantine, or anything else...then I know my kids are capable of hiking 3 miles a day. It would take me 23 to 24 days to reach my camp by foot. I'd have to provide safe water, edible food, defense, and shelter. Thats where the Ontario Machete, BK16, and RRA AR15 come into play. It would be nearly impossible, but the significance of the consequences for trying to wait a catastrophic event out would be unthinkable. We'd just have to do it. Hope it never comes to that.

i learned alot with the tornado outbreak we had a while back . it's kinda weird how people change during things like that . it's weird when you notice how much you change yourself as well. randori , i hope this season goes well for you and yours .

The issue I am running in to, is a lack of scenario. We need to know the event that triggers the bug in, or bug out. Obviously, a colapse of our currency will require a different strategy than say..........zombies (please oh please let it be zombies), or even a natural disaster that decimates our power grid. The event will cause you neighbors, or as I call them, my 50m targets, are going to act differently in each situation, which would drive my decision making process. What are all your thoughs on this?
I get what your sayin' Pick your own scenario where you bug in , like maybe a riot in another area of town from where you live but still could spill over into your area. Then pick another one where you'd have to leave, like a flood, I mean if the water is rising you won't be staying right? just thoughts is all.

You know what they say about bugging out. If you have a place to go you are called "prepared" if you don't have a place to go your called "a refugee"

There ya go using them big words again...

Well, Arkanian, when you get to Westchester keep heading north to Brewster. Hang a right, go another 23 miles and you can hang out with us. Just yell "BECKERHEAD!" as you're coming in the driveway, or expect a few rounds to come your way... :D

I have a family rally point up north, CT is on the way so I may have to take you up on your offer.

I picked you up a BK-11, we'll sort it out later :)

No worries man. I thought I wasn't going to be able at first because I needed one and asked for two. At first they couldn't find a second one, but fortunately I stayed around talking a bit and Moose found another one. At the price they were going for I would have bought a couple more if they had them. I'll give you a call some time this coming week. I'm going to be really busy when I first get back though. It sucks that I didn't act quickly enough to get a 16 or a 17 though. They ran out quicker than I expected, but I'll manage one later so no biggie.

Seeing some good thinking in the posts in the challenge thread. I like a lot of the thinking on two-wheeled vehicles in the more crowded urban areas. I saw some interesting home-made mopeds a few days back that I like. If I lived in flatter terrain I would definitely look into putting a couple of these together.

Been thinking about this since it was first posted.
Most likely scenario that would make me bug out is a dirty bomb in NYC (sorry, Arkanian!). I'm 85 miles NE, and if the prevailing winds are wrong (summer time) we can be in a bad spot for fallout. If prevailing winds are OK (the other three seasons of the year) I'm buggin' in with the arsenal and food. If it's summer the RV will get me and the dogs 500 miles north. Sorry, cat, but if you like that basement so much you can ride it out there! :D

Here we are. Any chance we could get you to move the posts to this one Guyon? Need to keep a tidy house after all.

Wow! I can't believe I won. There were some really good entries. I had never given urban survival any thought until now. This contest was definately a good mental excersise. Thanks Ethan & Moose!

Nice detective work Derek! lol

Im very surprised that I also managed to get in with the winners...thank you much Ethan and Moose. All of the entries were great and I managed to learn some new things from reading them. Like Johnny1280 said.."it was a good mental exercise". Thanks again.
