Urban EDC Keychain

This is really helpful as a fine-tune my EDC. What is the most efficient way to carry a firestarter? I saw something called a flint match somewhere. It there a rod that I could use with my pocket knife to get some sparks without adding much if any bulk?

This is what I have on my keychain in the little leather pouch...the WSI Hot Spark, keychain sized:

I too, like redundency. I have 3 methods of fire (2 ferro rods and a mini Bic) , two lights (Fenix L1P and Photon Freedom) and a few knives and multitools.

Now that's what I call a nice, efficent, well though out EDC! I might copy that almost gadget for gadget. Could you put together a list of all what's in there, especially what's in the zippered wallet? (I see some things in the pockets in the side of the zippered wallet, but I can't make them out.) Finally, where did you get that zippered case?

Thanks.

In the city I think some sort of emergency light is manditory. Two is better. A whistle is good. We both have high pitched Bison designs on our keyrings. Also a small keychain backup knife. I keep a Victorinox classic on mine. Its sheeple friendly and handy.
I have a separate keychain that I keep those same items on-backup flashlight/ArcAAA-P, whistle/Atwood tactical whistle, and keychain knife/Vnox Classic. I use all of them on a regular basis, and the overall package is so small I carry them everywhere, even in a zipper pocket when wearing swimming trunks.

You got it! I am a big fan of Doug Ritter. Although I just purchased his survival kit (which is a great kit), I have not incorporated it into my "urban" kit. It travels with me in my pocket when hiking and camping.

The kit you see is with me anytime I have pants on. Thankfully I can wear "business casual" at the office, but even when I have to wear a suit, this goes with me. It is very spread out and is not bulky. The picture is laid out how I carry it. LF pocket has the bandana, RF pocket has the keychain, LR has my wallet, Fenix L1P, Space Pen and mini sharpie (not pictured), RR has my "EDC" wallet and Leatherman Juice. The Benchmade Ares is IWB, and the cell phone is the only thing on my belt.

I will post a list of the items in the "EDC" wallet next.

Thanks for the compliment. As always it is a work in progress.

The zippered wallet is from Eagle Creek, I purchased it at REI a few years ago. I believe it has been discontinued, bummer, since I used to carry a Surefire E2 next to it and the knurling wore down the zipper on one side.

Here is what is in it:

- 12 ft of 550 cord, daisy-chained
- Leatherman Micra
- spare AA battery for Fenix L1P
- Mini-Bic Lighter
- BSA Ferro Rod (cut down handle and covered rod with shrink tubing)
- Capsule has Meds in it and half a cotton ball for cushioning
- standard sewing kit
- 36" duct tape
- P38
- Uncle Bill's Sliver Gripper tweezers
- spare 2016 batteries for Photon
- two large paper clips
- safety pins
- Doug Ritter's Survival Instructions from his kit
- a few band-aids

Here is a larger version Zippered Wallet from Eagle Creek that is still being sold. I used the smaller version since I wanted something to ride next to it, although this might work better. This new one has a zippered coin pocket on the inside that has some potential.

This is standard wallet size and less than 3/4 inch thick when loaded.

Right on Ready! the guy is my hero to. Keep posting and Ill just keep looking at your pictures and gear!

Here is a picture of the Leatherman Juice KF4 with the modified mini-mag holster that I carry it in. I put a cotton ball in the bottom so that it is not such a squared off bottom (plus it can be used as extra tinder, if needed):

Wow, that is impressive. I would love to have the efficiency you have shown in this EDC.

BTW, could you post details on how you modded that mini-mag holster to handle the KF4?

I use 2 separate keyrings. 1 has car and house key with a Photon light and the second I keep in my right pocket. It has a Micra and prytool attached. It stays in my right pocket with my main blade.

I prefer this setup so I don't have everyting rattling around on my steering column and it distributes the load between pockets.

Several years ago I took to carring a fanny pack (maxpedition now) because I got tired of my wallet. It is amazing the stuff I have stashed in there. Along with my altoid PSK there is a bandanna, surefire, small Gerber knife, swamp rat rat trap, asprin, 20 ft of paracord, Ti leatherman, spare batteries, Atwood Prybaby, zip ties, TAD gear life capsule. All of this stuff is stashed in the side pockets and the main compartment is still free for additional stuff and my wallet. I still need to add some other items but this thing is not that bulky and all of the items are out of site but handy when I need them.
