Urban EDC vs Wilderness Carry

I carry a back pack, it's got my goodies, I adopted the name "bag of evil" from somewhere.

It carries my fixed blade, water, snacks, first aide stuff, and miscellaneous stuff that I think I may need. It's not really a BOB or anything, just a bag of goodies.

I carry the same folders everywhere, I've never encountered an "anti-knife-hate-monger-sheeple" yet and I don't think I'd change my carry habits because of one.
 
I like to always have my Victorinox Swiss Tool with me as my main unit, driving, walking, anytime really. On hikes or outings, that's when I bring the fixed blade (which one depends on where I am going) but I still have the Swiss Tool as well. People in public never even notice the Swiss Tool on my belt... not like it would influence me to change my habits even if someone were to mention it though.
 
I guess I'm generally unique. I don't have "specific" gear but rather use "universal" gear that will serve a multiplicity of purposes and mission profiles (urban or wild). So the edged tools I carry Urban EDC are also the same tools I carry in the wild. I live with my gear everyday and use it in every situation so I can become truly a master of that tool with either hand.

While I know most folks prefer fixed blade as do I, I generally end up using my EDC folding pocket knife for about 98.7% of my chores in the urban or wild. Once I've mastered using my folder with one hand on one task I switch and start to replicate what I'm doing with the other hand so I'm equally competent.

I'm more into programming wilderness skills software rather than owing a bunch of hardware I'm marginally competent with - but that is me. I'm not all wrapped up in this "I can only survive if I have my custom x201 fixed blade knife in the wild". I've been in the wild with other folks and they'll say "darn, if I only had my K Bar series 2008 instead of this thing I could finish this bow 'n drill." Whatever, learn to use what you have or what is available!

My philosophy is when the next catastrophic emergency falls on me like Katrina did in the south, most likely I'll be required to start to survive with the tools I have on my person (regardless of where) at the time of the emergency...and I may not be able to get back home and pick up my "preferred" x201 custom fixed blade.

With that being said, any knife needs to fulfil a multipicity of missions....it may not do one specific or kind of task perfectly but it can do a multitude of them well or very well. So self defense, rescue, fire creation, food prep, shelter and trap construction, hunting et al are all part of my requirements and the blades I EDC (urban or wild) must meet this mission critera or I don't carry them.

The only difference is I put a lanyard on my folders when in the wild. That is it... Oh and I always carry an exact duplicate on my person all the time - one is none, two is one etc.

^ I also use the same knife regardless as well (small fixed blade), I do leave the saw and axe at home though when venturing into the city :D
