So I'm a denizen of a rural/country environment, but often wind up in cities because of work.
When walking nervously around in the urban wilderness, the heft of a sturdy cane is oddly comforting.
So I've started making a new one:
Got some Black Walnut and Elm for contrasting colors.
Here four hunks of wood are dimensioned; two at 1/2", two at 3/8"...
Time to get to gluing; ten chunks of wood, so which part goes where...?
Alrighty - Glued and screwed to the workbench instead of using clamps.
Once the glue has cured, the screws/washers will be be removed, and the holes drilled larger for dowels...
Drilled and doweled...
Now for basic, rough shaping...
More rough shaping...
Mostly shaped to its final form, it went for a bit of a walk in the woods to start fine-tuning the fit; so far so good...!
Now for lots and lots of sanding (and sanding, and sanding)
