Urban Office Worker: Bud Nealy, BC Assault Shaker, or Dozier KM-3?

Good Evening Everyone-

The sheaths from Bud Nealy appear to be the most-versatile, but I suppose they would need to be, since they're carrying a bit more overall length. Especially when compared to the Assault Shaker.

The Dozier comes stock with the horizontal rig on the waistband. The securing mechanism and release sure seem reliable.

Any *.jpgs or URLs for pictures of the Assault Shaker sheath? There is nothing on the Busse website.

Suveges, your post cracked me up. :D

Bluejays, you should have came over to the Dozier table at the ECCK show and asked me to show you the Canoe neck knife and the NY Minute neck knife. The Canoe is slender and very lightweight. Good for any light utility purpose. Women took particular interest in this model. The NY Minute is made with the now familiar "grip guard" type G10 and has a false edge or a double edge. It has a small integral lower guard that is quite functional should you need it for thrusting purposes. The NY is only a tad heavier that the Canoe. But has a flatter profile. Both are made with D2, the best using blade steel in my experience.

The KM-3 Agent model (along with the Arkansas Toothpick) was one of Bobs best sellers at ECCKs. Its nicely contoured handles adds larger dimensions and is best regulated for belt sheath carry. It will definitely "print" through your buttoned dress shirt.

I recall there was at least one of each of the neckers still unsold when show time closed. Give Bob or Linda Dozier a call if you are interested.

Just to add, if you are contemplating wearing a necker for last ditch or when the sh*t hits the fan purposes, and additionally if you are a larger stature person, Buds small Pesh Kabz is the way to go. The mini version has a slight finger groove and a pinky hook to help facilitate the draw, but is not large enough for a 4 finger grip. At least not for my medium size hands. Oh yes, I left Buds table with one of his small models. :)

I would use a 2 and a half inch Urban Shark.
And my left middle finger to anyone that gives me a dirty look about me using it at work.

Before you commit to a neck knife, you might want to consider a neck sheath for your Mini-AFCK. I have carried a Full Size AFCK in a Mike Sastre Neck Sheath for many years. For ~$20 you may find out you already have what you need in a neck knife.

River City Sheaths

I have also carried a Camillus Talon (the big one) and found it worked well in real world use. Due to its length, I had to choke it up so the bottom didn't extend past my sternum which would cause it to bulge and outline on my shirt. This went well for about 3 months until the sheath opened up due to what I assume is body heat and started dropping the knife. You don't have to hear the distinct ring of a fixed blade hitting the floor more the once to go back to what was a proven performer. A quality sheath is almost more important then the knife it contains when carrying a neck knife.

Blue Jays, I'd like to put in another recommendation for the Assault Shaker. For a 1/4" thick brute, it is actually very comfortable to wear around your neck. The finger cutouts give a completely secure grip and since it doesn't have any handle scales it is even more compact for carry.

If your interested in carry options other than the neck sheath method check out the work by Eric Noeldechen at On-Scene Tactical http://www.mnsi.net/~nbtnoel/ , or David Brown at http://www.buybrownholsters.com/ . I would expect that a belt or back pocket sheath would be a pretty simple deal for these guys:) They have both done a lot of Busse sheath work and David Brown has even been incorporating the Assault Shakers as a piggy back option on larger knives.

Thought you might need another recommendation for the Assault Shaker. I also work in an office environment, and the AS is usually part of my EDC. Great knife at the price.

Terrapin
That AS is just as it came from the Busse Shop. A few of the Assault Shakers were bead blasted but only a very small number.

I hope this answers your question if not let me know.

Good Evening Everyone-

Sid Post, wow, that would be a sobering moment. Just imagine hearing your neck knife clattering across the pavement as you run to catch a bus or something. I'll be very careful to check the "security" of the sheath. Thanks for the heads-up on neck carry for my Mini-AFCK, but I'm thinking more in terms of a fixed blade.

Nakano2, yes, I briefly visited the Dozier table at the ECCK show. Unfortunately, I conducted my "ECCK Whirlwind Tour" during a late lunch hour on Friday. Darn, I should have taken a sickday to allow PLENTY of browsing time! As a supervisor, I practice what I preach, and wouldn't disappear for a 3-hour meal. :(

It looks like the Assault Shaker has lots of fans out there in cyberspace. My preconceived notion on which model would get the most recommendations has been turned on its ear.

Again, thanks for your kind assistance. The whole neck knife thang' is a totally new concept for me. The chosen knife will reside happily inside my shirt unless it's needed for something very important.

Good Evening Everyone-

Thanks for your kind assistance and feedback. Based on what I've learned, my first neck knife is going to be the Busse Assault Shaker. It appears to be a stout little tool that will get the job done.

Andrew Lynch, any suggestions on where to get instructions to do a nice cord-wrap on the handle? I did find this brief instructional over at Strider Knives

Guess it would give the knife a little bit of an Asian flavor if done properly.

Thanks,
