Here's what I have after reading the posts that came up in a search...

Altoids Tin:

Photon II
Tweezer
FAK: gauze pad, bandaids big and small, iodine x2, moist towelette
Waterproof Matches
550 Cord
Bic Lighter
Plastic bag

Pockets:

Phone, Flashlight, firestarter, bandana, Buck Strider 889, wallet w/ SwissCard, Leatherman Wave w/bit set

Did I miss anything important? This kit would just be for things that might be needed quick, fast and in a hurry. Space is definately a criteria as I'm almost out. Thanks in advance.

So, what'd I miss?

Urban? I'd throw in a few feet of bendable wire; a few sheet rock screws; small or collapsible cup; bottle of water; some energy bars; hexamine heat tablets; watch; some lock-picking tools; whistle; pepper spray; street maps highlighted with locations of key destinations; important phone numbers; you haven't mentioned clothing but you probably have that covered; a sheet of plastic or something like that.

i suggest getting a nice comfy midsize backpack to put all that stuff in. perhaps a camel pack to eliminate the need for a water bottle. i also appreciate the fact that an empty water bag will be nearly not there, as opposed to an empty water bottle that keeps taking up space even when empty.

sounds like you have everything else covered though, between those two lists

A current Thomas Guide for your area, roll of quarters, something to pack it all your stuff in so your pockets won't rattle around. In spite of trying to keep it simple, mine ended up like this:

hey hachetjack, how is that marmite from maxpedition? i am looking at maybe getting one, but would like to know how they are.

sorry to get off topic

Carry a whistle. I do. A whistle could be helpful when stuck inside an elevator and in other situations.

I know it won't fit, but the one item my entire urban PSK revolves around is a rescue axe with paracord wrapped handle. Its the first thing I'm grabbing in the event of an urban upheaval.

I don't know about all of you, but my first priority would be getting out of the urban area and into the suburbs, at the very least. So maps with various routes (eg railroad lines) to safer places would be on my top ten list. I think the hoards of panicking people are one of the bigger threats to an individuals survival. Strengh in numbers only works to a point in a situation like that.

A good number of water treatment tablets. Potable water becomes scarce/questionable in urban disaster areas. Without water treatment, looting may be your only option for safe water.

Got a 1911A1 with 2 spare mags. Pfft...p40... :D

Whistle, noted and great idea as well as the cash.

Far as all the other stuff goes that's in my truck. I'm gettin the hell to my house if the SHTF. This stuff in my pockets is to get me to the truck or in case I have need of it until I can get to my other supplies. I'd love to carry a pack but can't alot because of bad back and 90% of my time is at work and they wouldn't like me humpin gear around all the time.

Thomas Guide? What be that?

Yes, I think in urban survival, other people are going to be the biggest problem. I would be looking for ways to get out of Dodge fast, but where will that be? My front yard? You're not welcome, unless I know you as a really good friend.

Coldwood,

I generally never go anywhere without a pair of bk11's, if I let you have one, would you let me camp out for anight? I promise not to leave my fireboards lying around and to leave enough fauna for everyone. :D

Toss some ibuprofin and a needle and thread into your altoids. You could also stick a razor blade on the bottom, for GP.

I think that in times of trial and tribulation, most us of will be doing things that we would not be normally doing now as law abiding citizens: such as, breaking into empty camps and raiding food, breaking into rooms and buildings for shelter; going to whatever extreme lengths we need to find whatever we need.

Throughout history, people have always done this. We can expect it to happen again.

Just read the post about carrying a map and that is great. but there was also mention of Railroads track as an escape route. While that is an option and may be the most direct route, my first thought was that it might not be the safest. For the most part rail road tracks run through the lower income areas. Not always but in my area So. Calif. it seems to be the case. Most of your cities were built around and along the tracks and as a result those are generally the older areas running through older industrial areas and low income housing. That is where you will find the majority of society's predators. And that is where you would be most likely to be seen as prey. Just a Thought.??

Good thought, FULMTALJKT. Obviously, you want to be heads up and on your feet in those areas.

Tiros: If you promise to be my friend and give me a bk11, I will let you in. If you don't eat too much. :D

Dental floss or some 6lb fishing line. Asside from its intended use, you can use it for sewing buttons back on jackets or for tying splints on broken fingers.

Good point FULMTALJKT, *scribbles skull and x-bones on maps railroad routes and adds a white hocky mask to BOB*

That should dissuade any would be nasty ppl, running down the railroad tracks, in a hocky mask and a racon skin hat dragging a rescue axe in one hand and a stringer of dead squirrels in the other. :D

Seriously tho, any other thoughts on relatively safe routes out of urban areas, i know mileage will vary by city, but i'm looking for common things that most cities have, just in case your stuck in an unfamiliar city travelling or whatnot.

depends on the situation; i'm a little lost. Are we talking New Orleans-like situations or nuclear war?

Never underestimate the potential value of a pocket chainsaw.
