Okay guys, I had posted in my 710 M390 thread how Benchmade told me they'd replace my 710, put a new blade on it, or let me get something(s) else for the equivalent MSRP. The MSRP on the 710 M390 is $230.00. I can pick anything I want (that shows in stock on the Benchmade website) up to that price.

As of right now, I decided to get the 211 Activator, the Rant 515SN, the 985995F tool and a bottle of BlueLube (983900F).

However, since deciding this, I've gotten in a 950 Rift (in trade) which is in 154CM. I had previously decided I didn't care much for 154CM, but I think it had more to do with the blade design because this thing is frickin' awesome!!

So this opens me back up to more options. My initial thought was to go with the 860 Bedlam, but the 154CM turned me off. So it's back on the table.

But before I decide this time, I wanted to hit up the BF brain trust and see what you guys thought! So lets hear it, if you had $230.00 to spend (MSRP from the BM website), what would you get and why?

I prefer AXIS lock and I'm scared of M390 now! But everything else is a consideration.

Also, here's what I already own:

710
940
943
950

Thanks guys, looking forward to some replies!!

The ti 470 Emissary looks promising...

Edit: aluminum handle, not titanium afterall...

I got an 860 Bedlam about a week and a half ago, and it's an awesome knife. If you have your eye on that one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

710 and some kind of lube/toolkit/etc - and don't look back. My BM710 D2 is perfect and real tough knife. I have a new 940 and it's real nice but it's no 710. ;)

bedlam or a new knife. The bedlam would be a great knife, and so I think I would lean toward that. however, it seems like the 710 is a good design and having the m390 would be sweet.

I don't think there is any reason to be scared of M390. I can gurantee it will hold an edge longer than 154CM. The later isn't bad though and I have quite a few knives in it. It will get razor sharp pretty easy, but I don't really have a hard time sharpening anything and just got CTS-20CP tree topping sharp a few mins ago with just ceramic V sharpener. But the 154CM should be easier if you're still learning to sharpen. You just might have to sharpen it more often. I wouldn't worry much about the blade steel if you are ok with the 154CM and look for the design you like best. If you like the 710 I would probably just get a new M390 blade personally, but I have turned into a steel junky and like the more alloyed varieties. I actually find high end steels that are harder, easier to sharpen than the softer steels. My suggestion would have been the Rift bit you already have that. So pick the design you like best and you should get a great knife.

I'd have to agree with thegeek574. M390 is a super steel akin to Duratec 20CV. Benchmade knows you're knife is in for a crummmy example of a blade. It would be my guess (and my verbal request to Benchmade btw) that they pick you a really nice example of the M390 blade and replace it. They run it around RC 60 -61 I read and it's tough as S30v with a higher rust resistance. Go for it!

Sorry guys, but I already own a 710 (don't need another one) and since I am not interested in M390, I am staying with the other offerings. Yeah, hard choice since I already own the best they have available right now! I am thinking hard about the Bedlam, though. I just don't know what I'd do with a folder that large. It seems like anything I'd want to do with a knife that size, I'd rather have a fixed blade anyway. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

These are real beauties. They lock up hard & fast and have plenty of blade length in small package. Great ergos.
