Interesting. I wonder how Mr. Folts feels about this. You should email him a link to the thread. ;)

i just checked out the site, all the folts looking blades look like the blanks i saw for sale on an auction site and a few other sites, i have seen most of the entire sites line of knives on a Chinese site as well, looks like they are just re-handling them and selling them as their own, they all look like junk to me.

"About Us" page of Tribal says the owner is Doug Metzger, who also owns Premium Knife Supply (also E Knife Supply, Inc.), which has its own website but also lists on the Bay. Going through its auctions, I see blanks as you describe, so what you saw could very well be through his other company. The blanks are over five times cheaper than the very cheapest Tribal knife with it. That's the funny thing about comparing his sites; you can buy a knife for $165 on one website that sells as a blank for $12.95 on the other. The handles are a nice material, but would you want a blade that cheap priced that high? Reminds me of cars that cost $1k with $5k worth of rims on them. That's off topic, though. I wouldn't want any blatant copy like these are.

As for your mention of China, there's little doubt that's from where they come. His posts on Blade Mag's website makes it clear he sees cheap Asian manufacturing as the only choice http://www.blademag.com/forum/topic/listForContributor?user=093stxz968q62

The handle style is similar and Alan is the person you think of when you see it, but he isn't the only onw who uses finger cutouts. When I look at photos of Alan's knives, the finger cutouts are noticeably deeper and pointier than the ones on these knives. In addition, the blades on these have a choil that is half in the handle and half in the blade, whereas Alan doesn't use a choil that extends into the blade.

To my eye, although these remind me of Alan's work, the differences are too significant to think of them as a copy.

whoa, they have a couple toenail slipjoints that look a little like Rough Riders cept these are $155:eek:
just a gut feeling on this but a GEC toenail is 130 or thereabouts so a custom at 155 is suspect

Yep,,,, im calling BULLSHIT either yall are the types who thrive on gossip & conspiracy or you just dont know what your talking about.... I own ALL the minimalist knives & I also own ALL the premium knife supply blanks (which I put really cool timascus handles on) anyway though they are similar,,, they are not copies.... the folts is smaller,, it has jimping,,, deeper finger grooves,, and a completely different grind,, not to mention the blade angle is also different & the premium knife supply blank is made of BETTER steel,, (440c vs aus8 or 6,, who knows)... next time do your homework first.... and how do you know if mr Folts is pissed....?? You talk to him....?? Are you a personal friend of his...?? If so,, I have just put my foot in my mouth once again.... but I doubt it.......

Geeze Apache Tim please forgive us all for not being as up on knives as you.

And of course please keep posting about how dumb we are to gossip and engage in conspiracy, it will make us as savvy as...........................................you. (insert emoticon here, guess which one)

Geeze, apache tim, who are you asking these questions?
The original post is from May 2012 ... two years dead and buried.

Wow, I'm confused. The subject of this topic, tribalknivesusa, isn't even in business any more, judging from their website.

I suggest this thread be locked.
