Hello,

From some time I was thinking on going to some american knifeshows with my knives (probably in 2015-2016 first knifeshow in US for me).
Probably I will have then a green card ;) And I have Company in PL.

1. If I want to take nice bath of knives for knifeshow in US, can I just send them by UPS or something to knifeshow location before I come to US?
2. How about US customs and taxes in this situation, specially when I don't sell all and want to get them back to europe with me?
3. This will cost me fortune to only come for knifeshow, then probably I get 2 things on one fire. Tourist visit + knifeshow.

Can you help me with this ?

Best Regards,

The best way to do it is to use a bonded US import agent to handle all the US import paperwork for you and have the knives pre-cleared in the US.

Then you bring the knives with you when you travel into the US and declare them at customs. They will have all your paperwork, inspect the knives and you are good to go. The import duties/costs are pre-paid by the US clearing agent and you reimburse them.

Just remember that many natural handle materials are subject to Fish and Wildlife inspection and not all US entry points have an inspection office, this complicates the import process so take heed of that if you are using natural handle materials on your knives.

Best of luck with your venture…….

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but you could try asking Ed de Pauw. A friend of mine knows him from the Gembloux show in Belgium, and we all crossed paths at the Blade Show in Atlanta in 2011, where he had a table. I don't know how he did at that show, or whether he has been back more recently, but I know he had a good display of his work with him in 2011. Might be a useful perspective.
