Is there some place that I can find out when and where a particular model is or was made? If there is a website that shows the timeline of the models and what years they were made and where, I'd have a better idea of what I'm buying.Tang markings apply to some knives, but not others because they just don't have any. I would like to know if I'm buying an American knife or an import.

There is a lot of info buried in these threads about this. I don't think there is any one doc that tells it all. But if you ask about a specific model, someone here will know. Most all Buck knives have appropriate markings as to USA or offshore.

Buried in Buck's website is a chart that shows year code tang stamps that apply to all Buck models. Bucks website has been undergoing upgrades so you may have to do some searching. Again, buried here in these threads, a few of us have posted that or a similar chart. Sorry, I am on a new pc here and files are unorganized right now or I would send the chart to you.

If I look at models online,it isn't always stated where the knife is manufactured. Some people may be deceptive, others may be even dumber than me,but it would be nice to be able to print out the different specifications for reference.

Hey popcornpicker!
Which model(s) are you looking at?
Pick-up a Buck '08 or even '07 catalogue and in those delicious pages Buck has marked the Post Falls USA produced knives with a US flag next to the description of the model. Something like 60 to 65% of the Buck branded knives are made by and for us US Americans! 'Sides, popcornpicker, the blade stamps of all the USA Bucks say USA upon them. Prior years' knives? Again, which models? Before '02? Cal-I-forn-I-A USA in total. Simple enough?
ASK THE RIGHT QUESTION IF YOU WANT THE RIGHT ANSWER. :)

For so many reasons, some good some not,I try allways to buy American....But I have to admit the china Bucks are great knives...And the 730 multi is a real buy......

I picked up a knife that looks kinda like an Odyssey 186 only a little different marked "1st Production Run 1 of 2500" no tang stamp just USA. A Buck 501 USA no tang date stamp.A
704 no tang date stamp. There are others, but,it would be nice to know some approximate dates and when models were introduced and discontinued.

Where did you find the new catalog?

Me?
I joined the Buck Collectors Club as a Lifer a couple years back and one special feature is a Dearler's catalogue/Retail price sheet a year. How great is that?

 Its GREAT!!!!! Best money I ever spent! ;)

You have to be kidding me.I'm asking for information about the Buck Knife Company,it's history, and basic information about a company that is still in business and information available about products past and present.Sorry that I really don't care about the great buy you had to tell everyone of,but I would like to have some real information.

OOoooo, a little touchy are we???

What Dave and I are trying to say is:
Theres LOTS of info available to BCCI members. It is all on the website. :D

IF you go to Bucks website, and click on a model it will have an american flag in the lower corner if its USA made, nothing deceptive here. As far as the older knives if you stick around awhile and chill out you may get some help. If you want a full rundown of a pile of models so you have info to list them for resale good day sir.
Pics will go a million miles to helping you in your quest also. No mind readers here :D

Geeze Picker,,,you are just going to have to suck it up just like all the rest of us have done and search out your specifics.

Tom Ables wrote a book about the Buck Family and its Knife History. Might be a place to start.

Blade published a "guide" to knives that has a 2005 publication date. Has a ton of stuff in it about Buck Knives.

and posting up a question here about a particular knife will get you some answers.

But,,,you seem to want it all laid out for you, So up above here in the sticky threads is some more info on 110/112's that may help you .

Current products: http://www.buckknives.com/

Past products will take a lot of digging. Hey, I've been digging for eleven years. You may want to ask one question at a time regarding olders models. I would suggest a new thread for each.

ok Picker,,one more and I will shut up..... Your statement above reads like you want a PhD dissertation about Buck knives, and you aren't going to get that in these threads. And you say basic information....Geeze again,,,,this knife company has been in business over a hundred years.

so Bud, get specific with your questions and read through all these threads that yuo can... contrary to popular belief the search option does work. Just a matter of learning how to use it. Well yeah,,,it does go down sometimes, but I have been using it a lot of late and it is doing what I need it to do.

So now I will shut up. my 2 pesos ,,,Adios

I don't think you get it. I probably have at least a hundred Buck knives. Many of you have a lot more than that. If I find what I would be an interesting addition to my miniscule collection it would be nice to have a reference to get some history on an item, rather than an opinion. As a collector,I'm more interested in where something was made than the last thing you cut with a Buck knife.

No one said you need to get your questions answered here Corn Picker Pop:jerkit:. So reach up and pull your panties out of your crack. We like to have fun here and chat it up with each other....If you don't like that...well go some where else for information. I would think that if you have 100 Buck knives in your possession that you would already know a lot about them. You have already been given information on where to go to get your Buck education.

The only questions I have for you pal.....how long have you been in possession of your 100 Buck knives and where did you get them? More than a few of the post above asked you to be more specific about your knives...like model numbers or post a pic or two; to which you seem to be a little elusive and that makes me suspicious of you!!!! I state that because a few collections have been stolen of late:mad:. "Enough said to you":D

ROFL
You have a hundred Buck knives and you are ASKING which models are Chinese!!!
If it doesn't have U.S.A. stamped on it I'm pretty sure it's NOT USA
I could be wrong
I'll look at my newer Bucks and see if I can find a USA made one without a USA "mark" somewhere.........

You could do us all a favour and put together this document for us all. When you post it here we can all benefit from your labour. Thanks in advance.

It just seems odd, that there is more readily available information about Schrade and Camillus, than about Buck. They have catalogs to download, price lists, etc.Could this be due to copyright laws? Also to jb4570, 90% of what I buy is on Ebay, the rest mainly from Bladematrix. As far as me being deceptive, about what? I'm not trying to sell anything. If you have something useful to contribute, please do,otherwise, stay out of it. Thank you.

Pics....without them :confused:just guessing....Buck's web page has the date marks.
704 and 501 with no date stamp.....usually means they were made before 1986
but not always :D....again need pics to ID.
