The knife must be made in America!

What can you recommend?

I don't think there's a heavy duty folder USA-made with a blade of 3 inches.
3-4 inches, then you have a massive amount of options.

BM 755 MPR. Though given how thick the blade is for its length, I wouldn't recommend it. A ZT 0301, 0350, or 0551 would probably be better suited for the task.

I suspect the HEST folder would be pretty close at 3.1 inches. Though again, history has proven that knives with that thick a blade wouldn't be too good for cutting certain things.

The 3 inch blade is making this tough. The BM 755 or tht ZT350 would be my first thought too. If I may ask, what sort of camping chores are you going to be doing with this 3 incher?

I feel a bit like a broken record recommending this knife so much, but im just that happy with it.

I have the large benchmade bone collector, the small version has a 2.95" blade made of d2 steel (super tough), and VERY beefy construction for a compact folder. In fact, I would say it is one of the thickest handled, beefiest compact folders I've seen.

On top of that, this knife is specifically billed as a sportsman/hunting/camping knife.

With a blade length of less than 3", and a need for toughness in construction and blade, I can't think of many production folders that can beat it in the price range.

Not a folder, but with that small a blade maybe just get an Izula ?

For the money, can't beat it. Plus, carries as easy as a folder.

Just an Idea.

Following on Cobra's idea, maybe a Becker Necker, or like he said the smaller Esee? I think a small fixed blade would do you better.

Mini cqc7, preferably with the A blade. Meets your length requirement and would make a dandy camp knife. The mini A100 is a better choice but is exactly a 3" blade.

Its also worth noting that blade length laws in most states have exceptions for camping/hunting/fishing/ that sort of thing. Check the knife law section here for more info if thats why you want a sub 3"er

The buck 112 is also a great knife. so +1 on that guy too

Buck 112 is the first that comes to mind, esp. given the blade-length limit, but could you be more precise regarding intended uses of the knife? Also, is there a price limit? And small fixed-blades (e.g. Izula, BK11) are out?

Benchmade Mini Presidio. I find the handle to be much more comfortable then the Mini Griptilian/Ritter and it's much tougher due to the Full liners and no plastic. It also has a larger Pivot.
