USA-Made Heavy Duty Camping Folder

3"...

if you're willing to take a 4" I'd recommand Carrillo knives, their folders are super heavy duty and give Strider a run for their money.

Benchmade Mini Presidio. I find the handle to be much more comfortable then the Mini Griptilian/Ritter and it's much tougher due to the Full liners and no plastic. It also has a larger Pivot.

Also a great knife!

If you are looking for a heavy duty folder...you should, instead, be looking for a fixed blade.

Just sayin'.

If he's that worried about blade length, he's probably worried because of legal reasons, in which case a fixed blade is likely not an option.

I have a suspicion that he wants a knife that is good for camping, but still carryable in town.

I still stand by the mini bone collector as one of the best that can be had under 3"... especially because D2 steel is hard to come by in knives that size.

Tops/Buck CSAR-T
3 1/2" long extra thick blade
Available in different steels and even as a fixed blade

I didn't notice that he changed it to 3.5"... I still recommend the Bone Collector, just the large version now. This knife is SOLID. It will definitely be my primary camping knife.

If you want something less expensive that still has a tough blade, I highly recommend the Kershaw Rake. It also has a D2 blade and is a really rugged, beefy knife.

That said, at 3.5", there are more options available to you than you can count. My main concern with a camping knife is ruggedness, and blade steel toughness, and the two above meet both those criteria perfectly.

Get yourself a Gerber® Skeleton E-Z-Out® Lockback with Camo Handle and Black Blade

CPM S30V, 3 1/2" blade and the package says made in america (who knows with Gerber though). For 20 bucks you can't beat it, well, maybe you can :D (great beater knife).

Just got a Manix 2 and it is definately up to the task....and then some. Depending on you use, the Buck CSAR is also a good heavy duty knife. Then agai you can't go wrong with the Paramilitary either.

I used an ez-out for some time as a camping knife, the s30v version for $20 is damn hard to beat.

If I was the OP, I'd spend $20 on that for a beater, and then spend $105 on a pocket queen.

i recommend the BM 950. 3.4" blade in 154cm so corrosion is not a problem. holds an edge well enough. the high flat grind blade is useful for all sort of tasks. axis lock. made in America!

I 2nd the idea of the Benchmade Bone Collector folder, large version w/3.42" blade length. I have one and it would make an excellent folding camp knife, as well as an excellent edc knife. It has a very solid feel along with a great grip due to the sculptered G-10 grips. I have the black/green grips and really like the contrast in these grips.:)

Where can you get this for $20? Don't answer - I know that's deal spotting.

Another vote for benchmade bone collector. I bought the small version back in November, and it has not left my pocket since. Very well made, maintains nice thickness to the tip, good cutting geometry, axis lock, comfortable in hand. It is one of the best edc knives for me, that I have come across. Feels very solid as well.
