It's hysterical how the forum community has leveraged the smiley function embedded into the "Like" button to stealthily humiliate posters asking outrageously high prices for some knife they perceive to be in higher demand than it actually is. I can't tell you the number of times I have sprayed coffee onto my keyboard upon seeing a dozen or so laughing smiley reactions to some seller asking some inflated price for his latest and greatest Spyderco sprint run, or rare Microtech murder device patinaed with Anthony Marfione's ball-sweat. I don't know why it makes me laugh, but it does--I think it's partially because the laughing smiley image itself so perfectly captures the feeling/reaction of these users. So, you people who are doing this owe me an apology, and perhaps a small contribution to the fund I am establishing to buy a new keyboard.

Folks should try to NOT screw up any deal rhat the Seller may have working.
It's like trying to sell your car in the driveway, and having your neighbor come over and point out all of the things wrong with it.
I recently screwed up a deal, and I regret what I posted...

But this is sort of what makes it so funny--nothing is being posted and there is no evidence these users are interfering with the sale thread in any way. They are merely reacting with a laughing smiley, which could mean many things. It's sort of a grey area.

Happy to do my part.

I disagree and I think it's disruptive.

Imagine you're a car salesman and every time you are sitting down with a potential buyer, random people are popping their head into your office to laugh.

I get it. It's a bit of righteous schadenfreude. Mocking people who overprice things can feel good. They probably deserve it, right? Calling them out and confronting them would feel even better. I actually have some experience in that department.

It's totally inappropriate though, and it needs to stop.

That's my personal point of view, anyway. I don't buy or sell anything on here, so treat my opinion for whatever it's worth to you.

Save up a little extra so you can buy a dust cover too.

That would be like posting "lol" in the thread. I'd compare this more to sitting down with the buyer and noticing the people sitting way off in the service department waiting area snickering but they're too far to actually hear.

From the exchange rules:

  1. Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked. The only exception to this is in the Knife Makers Market areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback).Save questions and offers for email rather than cluttering the thread.
Posting words or emojis is still posting. The only activity in sales threads should be between buyers and sellers. Emojis should be disabled in the Exchange.

That’s my two cents, now get offa my lawn!

But everyone can still see the post reaction smileys though, right? If their visibility was disabled, then it would be more like what you're suggesting it is.

I work around car salesmen..... if I could walk up laughing in their face everytime they spewed bullshit to people who don't know any better.... I would

Hell seeing the laughing emoji has helped me look up prices on things I never knew the better on

Just so you guys know, Spark has commented to us moderators in the past that warnings can be issued when emojis are used to derail a sale thread.

It may not be employed all the time, but fair warning to you all who think that you get a free pass.

I recommend you don't take that path.

I'll ask Kevin next time I see him. Using the emoji system he provides, not POSTING emojis, should be fair game. Posting emojis is different than REACTING with an emoji. Posting takes up space and can derail. Using the system spark implemented to react takes up no space. And who the hell even knows why someone reacts a given way anyway.
