Use the hook on a SAK?

I’ve used it 4 or 4 times in the past year or so. I’d be lying if I said it was useful but its far from useless.

I've never used the hook.

Victorinox seems to feel the Corkscrew is important and I always felt the Phillips screwdriver is important and only buy Vics with the Phillips. However I would prefer the Corkscrew to the hook. I wish my Super Tinkerer had the reamer, corkscrew and phillips on the top instead of the hook, reamer and phillips. And it could be easily done.

my 2 cents.

Hard to explain but when I did Maintenance for several Motels, the hook came in handy for many things including one part on the vacuums that I could only get out with that hook. I often use it working with string and fishing line. It takes up no room, adds no real wait, How could one hate the hook:confused: If you ever need it, it will be there.

I've used it to carry bundles of firewood that were tied together with twin. Definitely easier on the hand.

It is one of their classic tools and I doubt they will ditch it.There are so many models with so many combinations of tools there is something for practically everyone.:)

Thank you to all who have replied. I particularly appreciate the responses from people that have made practical use of the hook when camping, repairing things, etc. I think I'll get it and keep an open mind.

Honestly, the hook is probably the least useful tool on any SAK, but I have used it once or twice to fish wire or string through holes, or ocassionally get a grip on something I needed to pull on but could not get my fingers around. Its one of those things that you will probably find a use for every once in a while, but not often.

Works great to tighten boot laces, especially on tall boots. I've used it to tighten lashings too. That toilet video is awesome.

The mall ninja in me always wondered could you climb/descend a paracord rope if there were loops on it and you had two SAK's with hooks?????
