Use the knife as flint striker

Hello guys,

I obtained a nice piece of flint and with some shards I was able to ignite char cloth using the spine of my "battle" Mora knife as striker (the spine was grinded to 90 deg previously).
It worked really well but once home I saw some mini chip on the spine of the knife...something that using the firesteel never happens...

So my question is: traditional flint can ruin/chip the spine of a knife if used as a striker?
Do you have any experience?

You'll likely find more experienced feedback in either the Wilderness or Outdoor sub-forums.

I just stick to firesteels, myself.
 
When I think "I need a knife to take into battle", the Mora is generally my first thought also! Welcome to the Board!
