I want to see people actually use their fishing kits in their PSK's and see how they feel about it. Take some pictures if you can. No prize or anything. Just wanted to see people actually demonstrate it. I might try to get out to the lake when it gets a bit warmer and practice with one of mine. Has anyone used theirs already? If so, tell us how it went.

This is funny. NO ONE uses their fishing kit. lol This is my first completely dead unanswered thread.

I grew up hand lining for pan fish. Little suckers will go for anything.

I know I could pick some of those up with my kit. I doubt I'd get any bass or anything but if I were hungry, I'd manage.

by fishing kit do you mean a dedicated fishing kit? or like, a PSK kit that has fishing supplies?

I have a survival kit im my fishing vest, you wanna see something like that?:D

I wanted to see people actually practice with their PSK fishing kits or a copy of it, if they didn't want to get into their PSK supplies just for a fun thread. I haven't had a chance to go to the lake yet, but I'm going to take my PSK fishing kit when I go and see if I can actually catch some stuff. I've done hand fishing before with pretty good luck, but I also had a lot more bait and various hooks and tackle with me. I think my father in law is giving me a canoe to play with for a little while. If so, I'm going to be out in the water all the time pretty soon.

We use to go to a resort on a smallish lake in Minnesota every year until my Grandparents health started to decline. The Rock Bass would come under the dock at night. We took a stick (around 3 or 4 inches) and tied some line around it with a small hook tipped with a piece of worm. The stick would be perpendicular to the gaps in the dock. When a fish was on we would lift up the stick, put a net under the dock and then drop the stick through into the net.

Thats about as close as I have been to similar supplies in a survival kit other than limb lines. You probably wouldn't be on a dock or have a net in a survival situation though.

Sounds good, If I can get down to the river this week Ill put some pics up for sure.

Huh, I might have to give it a try this weekend. I'll be backpacking to a small lake full of panfish and bass. I'll be taking real fishing gear of course, but I'll try a use the PSK and see if I come up with anything.

Panfish are probably the most easily caught with a PSK because 1) they hang around the near short littoral area so you don't have to cast far, 2) are really aggressive, particularly if you find any kind of live bait, 3) are schooling fish - catch 1, catch many, 4) are good eating, 5) aren't so big that your spyderwire chews your hand off while bringing your fish in.

Difficulty with the panfish is they don't really become active feeders until water temperatures get above about 15 oC. You might be able to find speckle trout in the cold water however. Good post - too bad it was skunked the first time around. Lets see some

Same here. I grew up fishing with cane poles at times. It's not hard to approximate a cane pole. I'm relatively certain I can catch fish with what's in my PSK.

I have a small plastic container that is dedicated to fishing gear...an addition to the PSK if you will. I made a couple for my kids, but I need to update; here's mine:

It's pretty robust for being as compact as it is. I have an Emmrod fishing pole when I actually want to do some serious fishing, but handfishing is a lot of fun to practice.

My son and I used it to catch a few small panfish. I would have to say they were pretty domesticated as they would swim up to you waiting for you to throw something in the water:D

Anyways, it built confidence for my son and it's a good break when hiking. Brook trout a different story and you really need to work on your approach and ambushing skills!

We're heading up to the Peace River tomorrow. I've got my fishing tin packed, I'll see what I can catch with it.
