Use your knives?

I got a bucketfull of knives (crkt, Kershaw, spyderco, Gerber...the list goes on). But I do not use 90% of them, just keep them in my collection cases. I usually just end up using a cheapy like the paraframe most of the time or a cheap knock off. Idon't know why, anyways, anyone else have mid or high range knives and keep them shelved?

if I had a knife I wouldn't carry or use, I'd get rid of it. But I don't really "collect" anything.

Many of my high range slipjoints see more shelf time than they should.

My tacticals of all ranges get carried.

Large fixed blades get carried when appropriate (camping, etc.); I often carry a small fixed blade.

I appreciate my blades but it just seems when I purchase one I admire it try it out for a couple of days then just add it to my collection. Gonna start using the finer ones from now on, thats what they are made for.

So far I've got a Delica 4, a CRKT S-2 (the large one) and a Fallkniven A1. I haven't used the A1 yet, because I've yet to be in the woods since I got it. (Since this week's trip up north was cancelled, don't know when next I will be, either :(.) But the Delica and S-2 are used regularly. I buy 'em to use 'em. Well, I'm gonna get the Kumo cuz I think it looks cool, but I'll use that one, too :).

I use my knives whenever possible. I get rid of ones that are not being used.

Same. Any knife that feels too redundant in my collection or isn't being used due to bad ergos or poor blade geometry I trade for a design that appeals to me more. My collection is comprised solely of users.

I use my knives, I own close to 300 so there's no way I can use them all, and some get more pocket time than others, but all get used at some point.

The majority of mine do get used at some point or another - I have over 100 production folders. I really do enjoy the collection side, so I'm also one that will acquire one, use it for a bit and then it's on to the next one. Some, though, like my Delica 4 or Mini-Grip are always on me - they have been constant companions for the last year. Fun part for me is finding something as useful to replace them for EDC uses. I do use my folders quite a lot and for me, it really does say a lot about their utility when I can't find something as useful to replace them. Larger folders sneak in there every once in a while, though I don't require them all that often - other times, something will just catch my eye:) One that caught me off guard a bit was a BM710D2 - it's been clipped for a couple of weeks now and I'm pretty impressed with everything about it considering how large it is.

I have many knives both old and new. I am both a collector and a user. There are some of my knives which I have no real need to use but I just plain like them and there are my older knives which I would never use.

My current users from most used first (changes from time to time)

Floders: Leatherman PST2, medium SAK, Emerson/Benchmade CQC7, cold steel medium voyager.

Fixed: Busse Mud Razor, BRK&T Fox River, Kabar Impact Warthog, Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, Swamprat Battlerat, Falkniven F1, Swamp Rat Bandicoot and Ontario Tak.

from my cheapest to my most expensive if i can't use it, i don't want it. later, ahgar

I'm using my Small Sebbie regularly as it's my EDC. I'm thinning my herd to make way for higher-end users. The ones that I keep but don't often(or ever) use hold sentimental value.

I have four knives and most of the time they are kept in my drawer or in my pocket. It's not that I don't want to use them, but I just don't have the chance to use them. I cut papers and boxes to see how sharp my knives are. I want to use my knives so bad! Maybe I should put my self in the jungle. :D

For EDC, I buy a new knife about once a year, dont use it for about a month then carry it all the time and retire the previous one to the collection. I still have my old Buck 110 from the 70's and almost all of them on up.

My collection is made up of a bunch of beat up folders but they have memories attached to them, and to me that makes them more valuable.

I do have some nice, never used fixed blades but they will get used eventually.

Hey Guys...

As Keith said....

I only have three knives that have never been used..
Most everything else has been used...
Some Very much used,, others not so much..

I don't see a point in owning a knife and not using it..

If I was collecting for investment,, then I could perfectly understand it...

I guess I could collect as an investment, but I choose not to. I don't limit myself to low-end or inexpensive knives either. Hopefully, in about one week, I will be putting my new (expensive) custom to use field dressing a whitetail, with any luck that is!

To me nothing is sadder than a knife I cannot or would not want to use! If it is too pretty to carry and use I have to get rid of it!
