Used blems Knives and Sword for 5/15

I would be very interested in 2nds on the kumar kobra if it's 11 oz...or anything under 17 oz. for that matter...or in buying it from the current purchaser if you ever get tired of it or need to slim down your collection.

I don't think there's a chance that kobra is actually 11 oz. Don't seem possible. Guess we'll know when Cul gets his hands on it.
Even under 17oz would be miraculous.

It's soaking in mineral oil right now, I'll post the specs after a few days. It feels heavier than 11 oz, but I'll weigh it.

I'll keep it in mind.

Mineral oil for the wood?

Yes, you just fill a mason jar, or cut the top off a water bottle, fill with mineral oil, and let the handle soak in it for awhile to re-hydrate. The warmer the weather the better. I just put it into my garage during the summer, the heat helps the wood soak it in faster. Then I sand the handle, re-soak it, let it dry, and hit it with BLO, resand again, dry , and BLO, and repeat until you reach desired results.

DD..woohoo! Always wanted an 18" Kobra. If that ! is actually a 1, then it's 18" at 11oz?!, if so, that'll be overly awesome, way lighter than the magical 1 oz per inch!

I have a 26", but it's kinda unwieldy for me, this 18" ought to be a zinger!

I just weighed it, it's 18" and 18oz exactly. It's at the magical 1oz per inch proportion. Very light, and agile, I would not want to be on the pointy end of this blade!

I got my Kukri today and I have to say, it is quite a beauty! Being that this is my first one, it is better than my expectations! I look forward to getting more:D!

Also, Yangdu was a pleasure to work with on this transaction! My Kukri wasn't supposed to include a Frog and she found one for me that she included at no charge. Also, she shipped the Kukri out before I even made payment. I can see why she has such a fine reputation!

Thanks again for the help answering the questions I had!

I got to open up and examine my khukuri I got from this thread and am now bummed! Bummed cause I can't keep it.
The one I won out on was the 18 inch 21 ounce Ang Khola by Ram Kumar. Red grain mark and hairline crack on horn handle. $90.
Weighed it and it's actually 31 ounces, way too heavy for me. It's so beautiful and so masterfully balanced though! But I sadly can't keep it as it's too heavy for my uses.
Gonna see I can return or exchange it maybe, keep a look out for it in the future, my loss could be your gain, this one was an amazing deal/steal.

That's about standard for a heavy duty wood processor. There are other blades, lighter, but they're not going to be as efficient.

It'd help if you put in some details about yourself, general fitness, and what your intended use is.

My input is to hold onto it, give it a chance. It actually isn't that exhausting using a kuk, unless you have a heap of chopping to do, and a lighter kuk is just going to make you work harder to achieve the same result.

The AK is one of the best wood processors there is. There are lighter blades, but they're not going to be able to accomplish as much throughput.

E: If all you're looking for is LW/usable, definitely take a look at the BAS line. Solid jack of all trades, packable, and you can swing it all day.

Thanks for the advice. I already do have a BAS and a 15 inch Ang Khola that are 21 oz and 23 oz respectively and are perfect.

I've had heavier kuks before and find anything 26 oz and over too heavy for my own personal use which is for camping and hiking. If I was just using it in the backyard lugging around a heavy kuk wouldn't matter as much. Would like something lighter with the 18" length. Missed out on an 18 inch 25 oz fox folly the other day and am still lamenting over that.
