Just wanted to ask are used knives worth the price reduction if bought online??

Also if I go and see a used knife what should I look for and avoid

I think they are . You can find great deals on the Exchange for knives that are nearly new at a reasonable price.
Look for good pictures and a detailed description. If the ad lacks those ask questions and for more pics. If youre satisfied with the response fantastic, if not then move along. Plenty of knives abound.

I would cruise the exchange here for a used knife. Get good photos and description. There is usually plenty of reputable sellers.

The Exchange is the only place I would trust for used blades. The people here are mostly honest.

Is there any way to search for a certain knife there
Click on Advanced Search in the upper right. Click on Single Content Search (i always get better results with this than Multiple) . You can then search either the title or content of a thread for what you want and also search in a specific forum.

Some certainly are, others, not as much.

I'm regularly surprised at how close to retail many knives are listed.

Me too. sometimes I have even saw used knives listed for a few bucks more than what you can get a new one for. I love the exchange and have gotten some great deals on it most everyone is honest but it never hurts to check out their feedback listed on their profile page. Also you really need to know what the new knife prices are before you purchase. Here is a list of supporting dealers that are great to deal with. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1089879-Paid-Dealer-Members-List And you can read about experiences with them on the first three subforums listed on the Knife Exchange. And last check often and move fast good deals are listed constantly and don't last long.

I see too often used knives (if they came to you as a purchased item, despite use) priced way to close to sale price at an AD. If it's a limited run knife, then I get it, but to save 10% or 20% - I'd rather buy new.

I want a green camel bone Northwoods Broadway Jack, and will pay (within reason) for it immediately. I had to throw that out here, OP.

You can find great deals on used knives here on the exchange. Things like a used crk are often discounted by like $50.

I dunno if non-paying members have access to the search, you might need to donate $10 to the cause to use the search function but you'll most certainly get that money back with the good deals on used and/or new knives being sold here on the exchange.

This brings up a related question-- anyone have a list of companies that extend their warranty to secondhand purchases? I'm not talking de facto, but in an official policy?

Fifty dollar savings on a knife that costs over $400? Not even close to being a reasonable discount for buying used.

As many knives as I own/have owned, many of them were used.

There is nothing wrong with a used knife, unless there is something physically wrong with it :D

Nope. I hate wear marks that I didn't put there.
But if I had to buy something that was usually really expensive (CRK, Hinderer, Strider, TSF) then I might look.
But then again, my CRK was brand new.
I like putting my own scratches on it.
