I love jimping, but only if it's about as fine as a file.
I want my jimping to grip my thumb without having to dig into it. With the super fine jimping that I like to add my thumb can almost slip right across it until I add just a bit of pressure, then it comfortably grips and holds without hurting my finger.
IMHO if the jimping isn't fine and file like then it's just decorative and shouldn't be there.

Full disclosure, despite my dislike of jimping three of my five workhorse folders are, to some degree, jimped and my Manix 2 XL has so goddamn much jimping it makes up for the two that have none.
The jimping is comfortable which is something. It isn't horrible, does provide a little extra traction not as much as I would like. But as many stated the handle is also very comfortable/ergo so I have no worrying about slippage. So I guess overall it doesn't really matter that much.
